Safe Harbor Computers is dedicated to reducing our impact on the environment and preserving the beauty of our planet by conserving electricity and water, reusing and recycling materials and selecting products from companies who make protecting the environment a priority in their manufacturing and packaging processes.
Conservation
Reducing the amount of electricity used in the day-to-day operations of Safe Harbor has led us to implement several company-wide practices. During the winter months, many warehouse operations are relocated to the front office, eliminating the need to heat the over 6000 cubic feet of storage space. The sales office, which comprises the largest open area in the Safe Harbor facility, is lit primarily through natural sunlight, allowing us to slash the use of fluorescent lighting in half.
Reduction of Paper Use
Utilizing advances in technology is allowing us to move towards becoming a paperless office. Incoming orders are stored digitally, and pdf brochures and forms are created and emailed to customers instead of printed and mailed. Safe Harbor is continuing to explore additional ways to reduce paper use.
Recycling and Waste Disposal
Paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, cans, and aluminum and copper computer components are recycled. Many functional computers and parts are donated to charities. All cushioning materials such as Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap are reused, along with many of the boxes our shipments arrive in. Printer cartridges are refilled whenever possible, and recycled when not.
Product Choices
Safe Harbor has always been selective when adding new products to our catalog. We verify RoHS compliance for all applicable items, and promote electronically delivered software to reduce the need for discs and packaging.
