News a Safe Harbor blogSoftimage Does the Robot
Avid continues to add new features to Softimage and the news at SIGGRAPH is Face Robot—a new 3D facial animation technology built on a computer model of facial soft tissue that mimics the full range of emotions portrayed by the human face. Designed to give artists a more intuitive way to interact with CG characters for high-end film, post and game projects, Face Robot offers precise control over facial details, including wrinkles, frowns, flaring nostrils and bulging neck muscles. The Face Robot supports keyframe animation and motion capture; and the soft tissue model allows you to manually create many 3D facial expressions by working with control points. Currently still the "technology preview" stage, Face Robot is in use at Los Angeles-based Blur Studios and according to Creative Director and Co-Founder Tim Miller, "Face Robot has made a huge difference in the quality of the facial animation of our characters." In addition to Face Robot, Avid also announced Softimage|XSI v.5.0, which includes advanced character tools and Alias Maya migration tools to streamline the process of making, modeling, texturing and rigging changes to characters without re-constructing bones, bone weights or shape animation. Other new features include the Ultimapper map generation tool and Gator, a property transfer system for merging fully textured and animated 3D models. Customers will also get Native XSI hair with a new grooming tool; Syflex 3 advanced cloth simulation; rigid-body dynamics that are tightly integrated with the AGEIA physX physics simulation engine; and new import and export functionality. Softimage v.5.0 is expected to be available in September in 32- and native 64-bit configurations, with pricing ranging from $495 to $6995. http://www.softimage.com Follow-Up Articles in this Series0 responses to "Softimage Does the Robot"You can use select BBCode tags to format your thoughts including: [b], [i], [s], [u], [url], [quote] and [code]. | About This BlogSafe Harbor's 3D, video and post production news blog offers you the latest announcements and updates from the industry.Newest PostsTags3D Animation 3D Plugins & Effects Accessories Accessories - Camera Adapters and Splitters Add-ons - Avid Add-ons - Edius Add-ons - Final Cut Pro Add-ons - Lightwave Add-ons - Premiere Pro Add-ons for TriCaster Adobe Adobe (Licenses) AJA Apple Atomos ATTO Technology Audio & Music Hardware Audio & Music Software Audio Libraries Avid backup Power Supplies (UPS) Bella Corporation Blackmagic Design Bluefish444 Books Breakout Boxes Cables Cache-A CalDigit Camcorders CineForm Class on Demand Computers Contour Design Control Surfaces Craft Animations Cubix Digieffects Display Cards Displays - LCD DVD and Blu-Ray Hardware Electric Crayon Studio E-on Software Expansion Chassis Firewire Cards Graphics Tablets Grass Valley G-Technology Hard Drives - External Hard Drives - RAID Hard Drives - SATA Hash, Inc.
