(Marlborough, Massachusetts) Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, announced that a new Boris Continuum Unit, Beat Reactor, is now available. The Boris Continuum Beat Reactor Unit offers fast, precise, and flexible ways to use audio to influence the animation of visual effects parameters in Adobe After Effects compositions - resulting in dynamic, high-energy effects that are tightly integrated into compositions.

Beat Reactor can be used within Adobe After Effects to generate keyframes based on an audio track within the composition. The keyframes can be used to affect parameters within the composition by using AE expressions or by copying and pasting the generated keyframes.

"The Boris Continuum Beat Reactor Unit can be used to influence almost any parameter in an Adobe After Effects composition," commented Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder, Boris FX. "The filter makes it easy to generate audio-driven effects such as a pulsing light, a glow, or even an image wipe that follows along with the beat of an audio track."

The Boris Continuum Beat Reactor Unit is immediately available for an MSRP of $99 USD. Beat Reactor supports Adobe After Effects CS5, CS4, and CS3 under 64-bit and 32-bit operating systems. Customers who purchase the Boris Continuum Beat Reactor Unit or any other Boris Continuum Unit may credit the price of the Unit towards the full Boris Continuum Complete plug-in suite. (Marlborough, Massachusetts—June 2, 2010) Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, today announced Boris RED Version 5. Boris RED is an integrated 3D compositing, titling, and effects application designed for Adobe, Apple, Avid, Grass Valley, Media 100, and Sony video editing software.

Boris RED 5 introduces support for 64-bit applications such as Adobe CS5 and Sony Vegas 9, adds 30+ new filters, and provides a score of new user interface and workflow enhancements including ergonomic panels, a curve editor, and a spreadsheet-style keyframe editor window.

"Boris RED Version 5 brings RED’s award-wining 3D compositing, titling, and effects capabilities to 64-bit video editing applications," commented Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder, Boris FX. "30+ new filters cover many common post-production tasks including 3-way color grading, the ability to uprez SD video to HD, video noise reduction, and a range of image restoration tools."

Boris RED 5 New Feature Highlights

  • New Support for 64-bit Video Editing Applications. Boris RED 5 will support Adobe CS5, CS4, and CS3 under 64-bit and 32-bit Macintosh and Windows operating systems and Sony Vegas 9 under 64-bit and 32-bit Windows operating systems.

  • New DV Fixer Filter softens or removes diagonal stair-step lines from a clip captured with a lower-quality camera - without degrading image sharpness or quality.
  • New Smooth Tone Filter smoothes or softens an image while preserving detail contrast, making skin tones silky-smooth without loss of sharpness in the image.
  • New Lens Blur Filter emulates a popular lens blur or rack defocus effect where out-of-focus highlights of an image clip take on the shape of the lens shutter.
  • New MatchMove Filter allows users to combine motion tracking with transformation and compositing of a layer. Users can lock the movement of one image clip to another image clip using Boris RED’s built-in motion tracking capability.
  • New LED Filter makes an image, clip, or text element with alpha appear as though it was constructed out of an array of blinking or solid LED lights.
  • New Prism Filter simulates the photographic effect of chromatic aberration in which a bad lens generates prismatic color fringing along edges of high contrast within the image.
  • New Scan Lines Filter generates rolling RGB scanlines over the source image clip, emulating the effect of a computer monitor which was shot on video tape or film. The filter also includes a user-controlled noise generator function for added realism.
  • New Damaged TV Filter emulates the appearance of a CRT-style television that is receiving a bad antenna signal or is in need of repair - complete with gun offset, distorted edges, image roll, noise, scan lines, and interference lines.
  • New Turbulence Filter generates auto-animated gel-like distortion fields in an image clip based on input from the built-in noise map and turbulence controls.
  • Other New Filters include Lens Shape, Warp, Morph, Video Morph, Pencil Sketch, Charcoal Sketch, Cartoon Look, Water Color, Tile Mosaic, Lightning, and Color Choker.
  • User Interface and Workflow Enhancements include drag-and-drop panels, a curve editor for smooth parameter animation, and a spreadsheet-style keyframe editor window.

May 25, 2010

(Marlborough, Massachusetts—May 25, 2010) Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, today announced Final Effects Complete 6 AE (FEC 6 AE). FEC 6 AE brings 120 designer effects and transitions to Macintosh and Windows versions of Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5, CS4, and CS3. The new release features 12 new filters and transitions, faster rendering, audio-driven keyframe generation, customizable animated presets, and a new Compare Mode feature that enables users to compare the filtered result with the unfiltered source via either a side-by-side view or a live split-screen view. Each Final Effects Complete filter has been re-engineered for 64-bit operating systems.

"Final Effects Complete 6 AE brings the legendary FEC visual effects package to Adobe CS5 and 64-bit operating systems," commented Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder, Boris FX. "Packed with 12 new filters and unique workflow tools ported from Boris Continuum Complete, this upgrade is a must-have for any Final Effects Complete user."

Final Effects Complete 6 AE New Feature Highlights

  • Adobe CS5 Support. Final Effects Complete 6 AE supports CS5, CS4, and CS3 under 64-bit and 32-bit Macintosh and Windows operating systems.
  • Compare Mode. Added to many FEC 6 AE filters, Compare Mode enables users to compare the filtered result with the unfiltered source via either a side-by-side view or a live split-screen view. In the side-by-side view, users can view the unfiltered and filtered image result in the composite window as changes are made to the image. In the split-screen view, users can drag the wipe bar anywhere across the image to compare the filtered result with the unfiltered source at any zoom level. Additionally, Compare Mode offers the unique ability to view the filtered result with a live filtered layer in the timeline.
  • Beat Reactor Technology. Beat Reactor lets users sample specific bands of audio from a clip and use the sampled audio levels to drive FEC effect parameters. This new technology makes it easier to generate audio-driven effects such as a pulsing light, a glow, or even an image wipe that follows along with the beat of an audio track.
  • Customizable Animated Presets. This unique feature lets users save and re-use every parameter animation in every FEC 6 AE filter - even across host applications and platforms. The animated presets are saved in industry-standard XML format so that they can be viewed and edited by any XML-compliant text editor.
  • Additional On-Screen Widgets. Many FEC AE filters now include on-screen widgets that allow users to make precise parameter adjustments while keeping their eyes focused on the source image.
  • 12 All-New Filters and Transitions include new designer and organic effects.
  • Significant Performance Gains. Every FEC 6 AE filter has been optimized for improved rendering speed on modern computing platforms.

Pricing and Availability

Final Effects Complete 6 AE will be available in Q3 2010. Owners of previous versions of Final Effects Complete AE may upgrade for a discounted rate. Customers who purchase Final Effects Complete 5 AE as of May 25, 2010 will be eligible to receive a free upgrade to Final Effects Complete 6 AE.

March 30, 2010

Boris FX, the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, announced that a new Boris Continuum Unit, Shaders, is now available. The Boris Continuum Shaders Unit includes 13 Boris Continuum Complete filters and transitions that take advantage of Apple’s real-time FxPlug architecture.

Among the included filters are a full suite of keying and compositing tools, film effects, glow effects, 3D perspective filters and transitions, and an all-new Flicker and Shake filter.

"The Boris Continuum Shaders Unit is a perfect starter set of Boris Continuum Complete filters for any Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, or Motion user," commented Kevin McAuliffe, Pro Editing @ Home. "The Unit includes many essentials such as robust chroma keying, great-looking film effects, and rays and glows that complement Apple’s native feature set."

"The name Shaders stems from the OpenGL technology used in this subset of Boris Continuum Complete filters," commented Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder, Boris FX. "The software algorithms have been re-written in a special shader language for the Graphics Processing Unit under Apple’s FxPlug architecture. The result is real-time playback and the ability to stack multiple filters without the render penalty associated with software-based filters."

The Boris Continuum Shaders Unit allows editors to view animated previews of presets and saved effects in a unique, easy-to-use effects browser window. This innovative, try-before-you-apply approach saves endless trips to a pop-up menu or file dialog when searching for just the right look. Presets can be viewed in real-time using actual clips from the timeline.

Boris Continuum Shaders Unit Filters and Transitions

  • Chroma Key Studio. Chroma Key Studio provides real-time keying and compositing tools such as a best-of-breed chroma key process, spill suppression, a matte choker, and a light wrap compositing step. All four tools are combined in one, easy-to-use filter; there is no need to stack multiple filters to pre and post process video.
  • Flicker and Shake. Flicker And Shake is an auto-animating filter that uses bursts of synchronized Exposure, Glow, Blur, X or Y displacement, and RGB channel offset to create a flicker effect for video or graphics elements. The flicker effect has been made popular by recent television commercials and film trailers.
  • 3D Perspective. The 3D Perspective filter creates Apple’s popular "Cover Flow" look - complete with floor surface and reflection.
  • MultiTone. The MultiTone filter uses a source image’s color, luma, or alpha information to create a toned image that uses up to five independent colors.
  • Film Effect. The Film Effect filter provides a variety of real-time "film look" effects such as Black and White, Bleach Bypass, Bright and Warm Tone, Cool Tone, Color Reversal, Lens Mist, Warm Faded Grainy, Sepia Tone, Platinum, and Misty B&W Vignette.
  • Glow Edge. The Glow Edge filter applies a real-time glow that adheres closely to the contours of an image clip's alpha channel or mask.
  • Luma Rays. Luma Rays is a popular volumetric lighting effect where beams of light push out from infinity toward the camera. The beams of light are typically held back by a block of text or another solid object that is in the path of the light ray.
  • Real-Time Transitions include 3D Pull Swap, 3D Spin Flip, Dissolve Glow, Dissolve, Luma Mask, and Dissolve Rays.

The Boris Continuum Shaders Unit supports Apple Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, and Motion. The Shaders Unit is the latest addition to previously-released Boris Continuum Units: Chroma Key, Pan and Zoom, UpRez, Motion Key, Lens Flare, Film Look, Glitters, Optical Stabilizer, Light Rays, 3D Objects, Cartoon Look, Motion Tracker, Image Restoration, and Materials.

Pricing and Availability

The Boris Continuum Shaders Unit is immediately available through the Boris FX worldwide reseller channel and direct from the Boris FX web site at http://www.borisfx.com for an MSRP of $299 USD. Customers who purchase the Boris Continuum Shaders Unit or any other Boris Continuum Unit may credit the price of the Unit towards the full Boris Continuum Complete plug-in suite. December 7, 2009

Boris Continuum Complete 6 AVX for Avid DS (BCC 6 AVX for DS) is now available for Avid's AVX 2.0 plug-in architecture. BCC 6 AVX for DS brings nearly 200 filters to Avid DS Version 10.2.1 and higher. BCC AVX is bundled with all Avid Media Composer and Symphony systems. With a BCC AVX for DS license, Avid facilities are now able to conform sequences with AVX 2.0-based BCC effects for finishing in Avid DS.

In addition to AVX 2.0 support, BCC 6 AVX for DS introduces all-new Lens Blur, Lens Transition, and Lens Shape filters that emulate lens blur or rack defocus effects as well as a suite of time-based effects such as Optical Flow, Optical Stabilizer, and Motion Key.

New Feature Highlights

  • Conform Offline and Online BCC Effects. BCC AVX is bundled with all Avid Media Composer and Symphony systems. With a BCC 6 AVX for DS license, Avid facilities are now able to conform sequences with AVX 2.0-based BCC effects for finishing in Avid DS.
  • Lens Blur Filter. BCC Lens Blur emulates a lens blur or rack defocus effect where out-of-focus highlights of an image clip take on the shape of the lens.
  • Lens Shape Filter. Like BCC Lens Blur, BCC Lens Shape emulates a lens blur or rack defocus effect where out of focus highlights of an image clip take on the shape of the lens. However, the Lens Shape filter uses an image input for the highlight shape.
  • Lens Transition Filter. The BCC Lens Transition wipe filter applies a lens blur or rack defocus effect to the specular highlights of outgoing and incoming image clips.
  • Motion Key Filter. BCC Motion Key is a "magical" effect that removes moving cars or other objects from a scene by automatically painting them out with Optical Flow technology.
  • Optical Stabilizer Filter. Remove camera shake from a hand-held shot, lock a shot as if it was taken from a tripod, or smooth the motion of a panning or rolling shot. Image resizing and cropping is automatically calculated and rendered with high-quality up-scale methods.
  • Optical Flow Filter. BCC Optical Flow facilitates high-quality speed-up or slow-down of footage in forward or reverse direction, accurately constructing synthetic frames of video that would correspond to an over-cranked film camera shot. Missing frames of video are reconstructed based on "motion vector" fields.
  • DeInterlace Filter. BCC DeInterlace is a high-quality de-interlacing filter that blends high-motion parts of an image while keeping low-motion areas sharp.
  • Motion Blur Filter. Based on Optical Flow motion vectors, BCC Motion Blur creates an in-camera motion blur effect from video shot with normal shutter speed.
  • Other New Time-based Effects include Jitter, Jitter Basic, Looper, Posterize Time, Sequencer, Temporal Blur, Time Displacement, Trails, Trails Basic, and Velocity Remap.
  • 32-bit Float Image Format. BCC 6 AVX's OpenGL filters now render images in 32-bit float.[\list]Pricing and Availability

BCC 6 AVX for DS is immediately available for an MSRP of $2,495 USD. BCC 6 AVX for DS users can download a free upgrade to the new AVX 2.0-based version. Owners of previous versions of BCC AVX for DS can upgrade for an MSRP of $599 USD. The AVX 2.0 version of BCC 6 AVX for DS supports Avid DS Version 10.2.1 and higher under Windows XP Professional v64 Edition. A full-functioning 14-day trial version is available as a free download.
