Carson City, NV - Cubix Corporation recently announced its new GPU-Xpander Mobile product for Apple iMac and MacBook products which feature Intel's high-performance I/O connectivity Thunderbolt technology. The new Xpander Mobile, which is based largely on Cubix's existing GPU-Xpander PCIe slot expansion technology, will initially feature one PCIe x16 slot (x4 electrical) and one PCIe x8 slot (x4 electrical), plus a 175W power supply. The Xpander Mobile is designed, like all other Cubix Xpander models, with an open architecture allowing users to add or remove OS X-compatible PCIe I/O controllers at will. "We felt that Intel's ground-breaking technology was generating enough interest in markets which Cubix is focused on to justify development of an Xpander model specifically geared towards new Apple products featuring Thunderbolt", said Eric Fiegehen, Director of Visualization and GPU Compute Solutions at Cubix Corporation. "Cubix will develop additional Xpander Mobile configurations as Intel's Thunderbolt technology matures." According to Fiegehen, Cubix is targeting Xpander Mobile initially at professional video applications such as DaVinci Resolve 8 and Adobe Creative Suite 5.5, but also sees other applications and markets for the product next year as Intel's Thunderbolt technology becomes a feature on Microsoft Windows-based laptop PCs, "With additional laptop / notebook PC vendors supporting Intel's technology , we're anticipating interest from people requiring high-speed PCIe-based storage, hardware-based / GPU-accelerated rendering, even PC game applications for people only requiring part-time PCIe discrete graphics." The GPU-Xpander Mobile is expected to be available in December, with pricing to be announced closer to its release date. GPU-Xpander Rackmount is a 19" rack-mountable PC appliance which provides multiple servers and workstations with between 2 - 16 full-length PCI Express x16 slots, plus multiple, large capacity power supplies and exhaust fans required for operating multiple, high-performance NVIDIA® graphics cards or GPU cards. By connecting Cubix's GPU-Xpander Rackmount to your current rackmount standalone or blade servers, you instantly transform your legacy PC systems into supercomputers for running GPU-accelerated products ranging from scientific research and CAE modeling/simulation software, to the latest high-performance digital content creation, non-linear editing, and digital intermediate solutions - dramatically enhancing performance of these applications by as much as 50X-100X beyond the capabilities of today's multi-core CPU technology. GPU-Xpander Rackmount provides an independent life support system for each server or blade computer, with its own power and cooling, dedicated to the GPUs (as well as other PCI Express-based I/O) themselves. Because GPU-Xpander is a separate add-on module, you don't tax your existing computer's cooling capability, power supply(s), or violate its warranty by operating it beyond the manufacturer's specifications. You reduce your capital expense increments (see graph below) since you add 2-4 PCI Express slots to your existing computers instead of a new rackmount workstation with all of the CPU, memory, storage, and operating system license requirements. GPU-Xpander - Easy Installation Installation is easy. You simply insert a GPU-Xpander PCIe adapter into your host PCI Express slot (x8 or x16 slot in a tower PC or ExpressCard 34 in a laptop/notebook), connect the cable to the GPU-Xpander, load the GPU's software driver on your PC, and you're ready to harness the power of GPU-computing! Plus, GPU-Xpander can be shared among users in the office. If the need for GPU computing is sporadic among users, place GPU-Xpander adapters in multiple workstations and move GPU-Xpander to each as needed. Retrofitting Existing PCs If you are thinking about adding powerful graphics adapters to your existing computer, learn from the mistakes of others. There are a lot of uncertainties. Is there adequate power for an additional 200+ watt GPU card in your current system? How about enough power for two double-wide 250+ watt adapters? Will adding a high-powered graphics adapter overheat your workstation? Do you have enough physical space for one or two graphics cards inside your PC? With GPU-Xpander, all the questions about using an existing PC have positive answers. There is no gray area for concern. Your existing PC workstation stays as is and your worries disappear. Or, you can start fresh with a new low cost PC, add GPU-Xpander and get the same cost-saving, performance-enhancing results. GPU-Xpander Rackmount 2 Supports (but not limited to):

Safe Harbor Computers to Exhibit at 2011 IVA Filmmakers Expo
Waukesha, WI – June 7, 2011 – Safe Harbor Computers, a leading supplier to video and 3D animation professionals, today announced that they will be exhibiting at the 5th annual Illinois Videographers Association Midwest Expo, June 28, 2011. Demonstrating unique features of the Atomos Ninja, alongside the power of Safe Harbor’s custom-built Tsunami and Mac Pro workstations, attendees will experience hands-on benefits of the latest hardware and software. The Atomos Ninja, a rugged and portable 10-bit field recorder for video cameras and DSLRs with HDMI, will be mounted to a Sony video camera for demonstration purposes. The battery-powered unit takes the live uncompressed HDMI feed from a camcorder and saves it to a 2.5" hard drive in the 10-bit ProRes format with 4:2:2 quality, bypassing the compression cameras use when saving HD video to tape or memory card. The captured ProRes files can then be immediately edited in Final Cut Pro without Log and Transfer or any type of transcoding needed. The ProRes clips will also play in Premiere Pro CS5.5 for PC users. Functionality will be demonstrated on both platforms. Also featured will be Safe Harbor’s custom built Tsunami workstations powered by Adobe Production Premium CS5.5 and NVIDIA Quadro by PNY. The Mercury Playback Engine at the heart of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 is NVIDIA GPU-accelerated, 64-bit native, architected for the future—enabling users to work more fluidly on projects in SD, HD, 2K, 4K, and beyond. Safe Harbor staff and experienced video editor Jeff Pulera will be available for questions as he demonstrates this powerful setup with the Atomos Ninja. An Apple Mac Pro workstation will also be on display with unique configurations tailored to specific editing needs. Literature, raffle prizes, exclusive show specials and coupons will be available to all attendees at the Safe Harbor booth. Jeff will also be discussing the various performance levels of Tsunami and how Safe Harbor can work with customers to meet specific needs and budgets. Show attendees will be able to visit the booth, talk with video professionals, and learn how the Atomos Ninja, with an optimized workstation from Safe Harbor, helps to maximize production workflows.
