October 14, 2011

Beaverton, Oregon: e-on software, the leader in Digital Nature solutions has announced the formal unveiling of its upcoming Vue 10 product line - scheduled for release early November, 2011.

Among other significant advances, this new release introduces a number of major enhancements such as spline and road tools, a new rock technology, streamlined terrain editing, a physical water shading engine along with significant improvements in overall rendering performance and artistic control.

Release Schedule and Product Lineup
E-on software expects to release the entire Vue 10 product line early November 2011*. The Vue 10 product line is built around the same three-tiered structure:

  • Vue 10 for CG Professionals: Vue Infinite and Vue xStream.
Offers CG professionals premiere solutions for creating exceptionally rich and realistic Digital Nature environments with seamless integration into any production workflow.

  • Vue 10 for 3D Artists: Vue Esprit, Vue Studio and Vue Complete.
Provides 3D artists with powerful modular applications to create rich 3D Digital Nature scenery and landscapes.

  • Vue 10 for 3D Enthusiasts: Vue Pioneer and Theme-Packs, Vue 3D SuperHero and Vue Frontier.
Published by Cornucopia3D and powered by e-on software, these products feature content-filled, easy-to-use scenic nature creation for home and family use, with Vue Frontier specifically dedicated to Poser™ and Daz|Studio™ users.

*Professional solutions will ship first, followed closely by products for 3D Artists and 3D Enthusiasts.

Next Generation Features

Capitalizing on breakthrough technologies introduced in previous versions, Vue 10 adds a number of new and extended features such as:

  • Spline and Road Tools: Vue 10 includes a comprehensive spline toolkit that can be used for EcoSystems, terrain effects, building roads or creating objects. An automatic Path-finding algorithm can also be used to build realistic roads at the surface of terrains.
  • Dynamic Rocks: Vue 10 features a library of dynamic rock templates that can be used to instantly create single rocks, groups of rocks, or use them in EcoSystems. Each time the user creates a rock from a template, a new and unique variation will be generated.
  • Water Shading Engine and Physical Transparency: Physical water adds absorption and scattering parameters to allow for realistic light absorption in the body of water. Ocean waves now accurately affect incident light to produce realistic underwater caustics.
  • Render Comparison: The new render display dialog now lets the user stack and compare previous renders. Users can overlay and compare 2 renders (including multi-pass layers) and use HDR difference tools for in depth analysis. Lightweight render clones can be created to test various postprocessing effects, without altering the original render.
  • EcoSystem Phase and Lean-out Control: Vue 10 lets the user individually control the phase (animation offset) of animated elements inside EcoSystem populations for creating more natural animations. Phase is totally user-controllable on a per instance basis, using the function graph. EcoSystem Lean-out Control lets the user define how the EcoSystem instances lean out towards zones of lower density.
  • Terrain Editing Improvements: Users can now precisely preview the active zones when painting with a brush that has Environment Constraints applied. A new Custom 3D terrain brush is added to the brush collection. Mask rotation can also be enabled/disabled when painting in the terrain editor. Material painting in the terrain editor is markedly improved. A new Strata3D node is added for the creation of realistic canyon walls and stratified rock formations. And much more!
  • Edge-based Anti-Aliasing: A new edge-based anti-aliasing algorithm is added to complement the previous color-based anti-aliasing strategy. Both AA settings can be configured independently.
  • Improved Depth of Field and Motion Blur.
  • Up to 30% Faster Rendering Speed: Significant internal optimizations made to Vue 10’s rendering engine will result in dramatically accelerated rendering.
  • And much more: new "Main View Defined" Aspect Ratio, Multiple Camera Aspect Ratio Variation, Improved Render Area, Texture Projection Node, Mixed Materials Alpha Channel, Collada Morph Targets...
  • Plus all the new features introduced in Vue 9.5 such as GPU Anti-Aliasing, FastHybrid Depth of Field, Atmosphere Relighting, Localized Cloud Layers, Advanced Cloud Control, Interactive Texture Placement, Custom Star Maps and more.

More details on the new features as well as the complete description pages will be published at the time of release.

Carbon Scatter for Maya and Cinema 4D Released

Posted by Marc Leitner
July 8, 2011

e-on software, the leader in Digital Nature solutions today announced that the highly anticipated versions of Carbon Scatter for Maya and Cinema 4D are immediately available! Users of Carbon Scatter Multi and Multi-CE get the new plugins for free.

Carbon Scatter is the easiest and most straightforward solution for creating complex and detailed populations using the native instancing technologies of 3ds Max, Maya and Cinema4D.

Carbon Scatter integrates e-on's patented EcoSystem™ algorithms directly inside the end user's favorite 3D application, allowing the population of native scenes with millions of instances and rendering them with the user's renderer of choice.

Some of the key features of Carbon Scatter include:

  • Automated Smart Scattering:
Carbon Scatter does not merely scatter the objects randomly across the underlying surface, but actually computes where to place them according to the relief of the underlying geometry. For example, as in nature, more trees will grow on flat terrains than on steep slopes, and no objects will be placed where they are likely to "fall down".
  • Paint Objects and Plants with the EcoPainter (3ds Max and C4D):
The EcoSystem painter tool (EcoPainter) lets the user interactively paint instances over any surface (or group of surfaces). Painted instances can be attached to the underlying surface so they move together with the surface, or they can be independent. Painting can be performed with a mouse or with a tablet, which gives you the ability to control additional parameters through pressure.
  • Advanced EcoSystem Control:
Multiple plants can be dragged from the plant browser into the EcoSystem population list, making the preparation of complex EcoSystems much quicker. When painting EcoSystems, users can paint with the underlying EcoSystem material rules applied, so that, for instance, the influence of slope and altitude or the sizing rules are taken into account.
  • Powerful Layered EcoSystem Materials and Function Graph
EcoSystems behave just like regular materials. A single EcoSystem material can have any number of layers, each layer with its own population list and full set of controls.Users can easily influence EcoSystem populations according to altitude, slope or orientation, or even take advantage of Carbon Scatter's powerful function graph to control almost every aspect of the population. For example, artists can use a fractal noise generator to control the distribution instances, or use a bitmap to limit distribution to specific areas. On top of this, the population density can also depend on time.
  • And more: compatibility with SolidGrowthCS plant technology, over 100 SolidGrowthCS plant species available, free unlimited network rendering nodes, support for animated proxies...

Pricing and Availability

Carbon Scatter is available in English for Windows XP, Vista and 7 (32 and 64 bit), and on Mac OSX 10.5+ (Mac Intel only, 32 and 64 bit).

Versions:

Carbon Scatter comes in 3 flavors: Carbon Scatter Single, Carbon Scatter Multi and Carbon Scatter Multi-CE (Content Edition).

Carbon Scatter Single and Carbon Scatter Multi ship with a small collection of 8 SolidGrowthCS plant species. Carbon Scatter Multi-CE ships with over 100+ SolidGrowthCS Plant Species (Carbon Scatter Multi-CE plant species cannot be read by Carbon Scatter Single or Multi).

Compatible Renderers:

  • mental ray and V-Ray (1.5 and 2) for 3ds Max 2009 to 2012.
  • mental ray and V-Ray (1.5 and 2) for Maya 2009 to 2012.
  • native renderer for Cinema 4D R11.5 and R12.

May 5, 2011

Beaverton, Oregon: e-on software, the leader in 3D sky, light and nature technologies, announced today the immediate availability of Vue 9.5 xStream and Infinite, its professional solutions for the creation, animation and rendering of natural 3D environments.

New features of Vue 9.5

Vue xStream and Vue Infinite are the company’s flagship solutions for the creation of natural 3D environments. Vue Infinite operates as a standalone application while Vue xStream works seamlessly inside 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage, LightWave and Cinema4D. Specifically designed for graphics professionals, these products combine a multitude of cutting edge features that easily integrate into existing production pipelines.

(Advanced Cloud Control)

Release 9.5 of Vue adds a number of important new features including:

  • Interactive Texture Placement: a new texture manipulation gizmo allows texture maps to be rotated and scaled interactively, directly on the mesh. Users can now place and rotate textures to any position, angle and scale and preview the result in real-time.
  • Fast Hybrid Depth of Field: Vue 9.5 features a new hybrid 2.5D algorithm to allow depth of field (DOF) to be rendered 4 times faster than traditional DOF methods.
  • Advanced Cloud Control: editing, animating and cloud rendering performance greatly improved. Cloud restriction zones allow users to include and edit out specific cloud regions. The new cloud offset animation capability produces breathtaking renders of clouds sweeping over terrains and other scene objects.
  • Multiple UV Layers: support for models containing separate UV layers (e.g. diffuse, bump, specular, noise, dirt, etc) is now included for better compatibility with other 3D applications.
  • Atmospheric Relighting: the Vue relighting functionality was extended to allow adjustment of all ambient and indirect lighting.
  • GPU Accelerated Anti-Aliasing: Vue will now use the additional processing power of the GPU to accelerate the anti-aliasing of thin polygon meshes.
  • MDD File Format: Vue 9.5 now supports the MDD file format which allows morphed meshes to be captured as exact geometry for each animation frame.
  • Improved EcoPainting: in 3ds Max and Cinema4D, EcoSystem painting on native objects is now done through the entire brush (instead of just the brush center). This results in much more accurate control of the painted instances.
  • Custom Star Maps: custom "deep space" maps can be loaded as an alternative to the standard Vue stars. Users can even load images of distant constellations.
  • Many other improvements such as vector quantization node, frame labeling, velocity pass in render buffer, composite layers for matte shadow and reflection materials also added.
