Sony Creative Software, a leading provider of professional video and audio production applications, has announced ACID Pro 7 digital audio workstation software, available in early November. Unlike any other software offering in its class, ACID Pro 7 software offers powerful and intuitive DAW functionality for today’s media professional including multitrack recording, 5.1 surround sound mixing, robust MIDI sequencing and best-in-class loop-based music production. Now Microsoft Vista compatible, ACID Pro 7 software enables a faster and more flexible creative environment by providing precise control over the music creation process through enhancements such as a new mixing environment, MIDI track freeze, tempo curves, improved Beatmapping, and additional import/export options.

"The key to developing a superior professional digital audio workstation has always been about providing a better means for channeling one’s inspiration from the first, initial creative spark, to the final output coming from one’s computer. ACID Pro 7 is no exception," said Dave Chaimson, Sony Creative Software vice president of global marketing. "Whether tracking a live band, performing on stage, scoring film, working in post-production or simply trying to cut a new demo in your studio, there is no other professional application that can provide the intuitive solutions by which to make it all happen. From our rock-solid stability, to the depth of unique features for enhancing creative expression – Sony’s ACID technology has been at the heart of digital music production for a decade and will continue to offer more innovations for multitrack recording, MIDI sequencing and loop-based music production for those whose who want their creative ideas to truly make a difference."

"ACID has long been an invaluable tool for my work in composing film and commercial soundtracks," said Jason Gleed, New York-based producer, music composer and musician who has recently worked on movie soundtracks for the Sex and the City, Speed Racer and Hamlet 2 films using ACID Pro. "With ACID Pro, the software never gets in the way of my creativity. The new features in version 7 will help me work even more quickly to produce imaginative music that keeps my phone ringing with requests for new projects."

New ACID Pro 7 Features
ACID Pro 7 software advances the application’s DAW functionality with new features that make the music production process flow even smoother by leveraging the Transparent Technology that Sony is so well known for in all of its professional music applications. The software provides extensive digital audio production tools that support many different production workflows in one complete application. In addition, ACID Pro 7 software now includes interactive tutorials to help new users get started quickly.

New ACID Pro 7 features include:

  • Audio and MIDI mixing console: The new audio and MIDI mixing console offers additional routing options, providing a much more efficient in-studio recording environment. The mixing console offers an integrated look at all tracks and busses in an ACID project with the appearance of a traditional hardware-based mixer, yet can be customized to provide users with the best view of even the most complex session.
  • MIDI Track Freeze: With ACID Pro 7 software users can freeze MIDI tracks that use multiple soft synths and render them as a .wav file which can then be streamed and played back as audio files. MIDI Track Freeze provides faster results and greater CPU efficiency during a mixing session when using multiple soft synths.
  • Real-time rendering: Real-time rendering allows users to incorporate live input from external sources such as an instrument, microphone or MIDI controller device. Users can route audio to external hardware, and effects processors.
  • Input busses: With input busses, users have greater control over routing input signals, including the ability to record from external devices with effects, mix external audio sources with projects, use external effects processors with tracks and busses and perform real-time input monitoring.
  • Enhanced timestretch and pitch shifting with Zplane élastique Pro: Mixes created with ACID Pro 7 software sound better than ever using new élastique timestretching from Zplane. The Company’s state-of-the-art processing technology provides ACID Pro 7 software with new algorithms that provide nearly artifact-free time stretching and pitch shifting. Beatmapped tracks can be time stretched and pitch shifted even more dramatically while retaining maximum sound quality.
  • Enhanced Beatmapping for tracks with multiple tempos: The enhanced Beatmapping in ACID Pro 7 software allows users to Beatmap songs with varying tempos and time signatures, providing more flexibility when composing songs and performing remixes.
  • Tempo curves: Users can create dramatic or subtle tempo changes in their ACID Pro projects using new tempo curves that provide a more efficient way to linearly adjust your music’s pacing.
  • FLAC, AAC, AC-3 Studio, and MPEG-2 format support: Users can import and export additional file formats with ACID Pro 7 software, allowing for more options with streaming media and hardware devices including the Apple iPod.

Additional Benefits of ACID Pro 7
ACID Pro 7 software comes with a software bundle valued at $500, which includes the Garritan Aria for ACID Pro player and custom sample library developed in conjunction with Plogue Art et Technologie Inc., the ACID Pro Effects Rack powered by iZotope, Submersible Music KitCore and Native Instruments Guitar Combos. ACID Pro 7 software also includes over 3,000 music loops and 1,000 MIDI files. Additionally, ACID Pro 7 enables users to upload songs to the ACIDplanet.com online music community directly from the ACID Pro interface. September 27, 2007

Jim Cooper from Motu was in the Safe Harbor studio Wednesday, September 26 demonstrating the new Motu V3HD video converter box.

V3HD turns your Mac or PC desktop or laptop computer into a powerful HD/SD video production workstation equipped with all the video and audio I/O you need, with one simple FireWire connection.

In this photo taken from the demo, a DVCPRO HD Final Cut Pro timeline is being sent over Firewire to the V3HD, which outputs to several different formats simultaneously, including HDMI, HD SDI, HD Component, SD SDI, SD Component, and S-video. This setup allows you to monitor your video in every available format while you're working.

Some standout features that were demonstrated:

#1 – CONNECTIVITY
The V3HD will work with practically ANY tape format and/or connection, SD or HD. Regardless of what format you shoot, you can easily send it through V3HD into your PC or Mac. Even if shooting on Panasonic with P2 card, V3HD is still used for monitoring and output (not capture).

This makes it convenient to monitor on variety of displays, as well as record edits to almost any record deck. This counts for AUDIO as well as video. Great for studios where clients are bringing in their own gear, will provide interface for most any setup.

#2 - LOW OVERHEAD
DVCPRO HD does not require the huge hard drive arrays and ultra-fast processors that uncompressed video needs. It even works great with a laptop!

#3 - AUDIO
Has comprehensive audio features and connections, great control over monitoring, mixing and routing of signals.

#4 - STAND-ALONE CONVENIENCE
Unit can be used without a PC connection for signal conversion, is portable.

#5 - PC or Mac
Some users have both and can switch as simply as unplugging FireWire cable.

#6 - DVCPRO HD
DVCPRO HD is a widely used standard with good quality and smaller file sizes, a good compromise on quality and system requirements. V3HD is a great choice for those using Panasonic DVCPRO gear in their workflow already.

September 10, 2007

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) has announced Adobe® Audition® 3 software, a major new release of the all-in-one solution for professional audio production. Adobe Audition 3 is designed to give audio professionals — sound designers, recording and mastering engineers, and musicians — a flexible production toolkit for recording, mixing, editing, and mastering audio. With comprehensive audio mastering and restoration capabilities, Adobe Audition 3 helps professionals create music and radio spots, as well as restore imperfect recordings with sophisticated editing tools. New features include VSTi virtual instrument support with MIDI piano roll, enhanced spectral editing options, fast fade and crossfade controls, and advanced multi-core support.

"Adobe Audition 3 is packed with new features for all types of users," said Hart Shafer, senior product manager at Adobe. "In addition to concentrating on delivering new creative capabilities and unmatched editing tools, we’ve turbo-charged performance and ensured time-saving features are integrated into the product. That means our customers can spend less time working in the software and more time creating the perfect sound."

Explore New Creative Options
Adobe Audition 3 allows audio professionals to easily create and arrange music, record and mix a project, produce a radio spot, clean up production audio for a movie, or edit a soundtrack for a business presentation. With new support for VSTi virtual instruments and MIDI piano roll style editing, combined with sophisticated audio and mixing tools, Adobe Audition 3 provides more creative power for audio production. New effects like the Analog Delay, Convolution Reverb, and Tube-modeled Compressor provide new sonic options, while the Guitar Suite adds analog-modeled effects to dry guitar tracks. Radius time stretching, from industry-leader iZotope, allows users to accurately change tempo and pitch independently.

"We have always found Adobe Audition to be the best audio editor for our work and the changes in version 3 will cement that position," said Jerry Ibbotson, owner and sound designer for Media Mill, producer of sound effects for video games, including the PS3 launch title Motostorm and the PSP hit Pursuit Force 2. "Having the ability to grab any part of a wave and drag it up or down in volume is brilliant. And the Spot Healing Brush is pure genius because I will be able to get rid of errant noises from the background of a recording at a stroke, saving so much time and effort."

Work More Efficiently
With new multi-core processor support and an optimized mixing engine, Adobe Audition 3 helps users save time by allowing them to work with more tracks and effects on the same machine. In addition, on-clip fade handles, a dedicated Top/Tail mode in Edit View, automatic cross fades, and the ability to edit grouped clips together make mixing and editing easier than ever. With fast, accurate tools built into an intuitive workflow, Adobe Audition 3 allows users to spend more time on the creative aspects of their projects.

Edit with Flexibility and Control
Adobe Audition 3 includes new features that expand its capabilities for visual editing and restoration. New Adaptive Noise Reduction and multiple phase correction tools help rescue recordings. Editing in the Spectral Frequency display is enhanced with the Effects Paintbrush and Spot Healing Brush similar to the ground-breaking tools found in Adobe Photoshop® CS3 software. Also, the addition of the Marquee Tool to the Spectral Pan and Spectral Phase displays means that users can now visually isolate and edit any sound based on time, frequency, phase, or pan location, further pushing the envelope in editing power and control.

Pricing and Availability
Adobe Audition 3 for Microsoft® Windows® XP or Windows Vista® is expected to ship in the last quarter of 2007 and will be available through Adobe Authorized Resellers and the Adobe Store at www.adobe.com/store . Sony Creative Software, a leading provider of professional video and audio-editing software applications, has announced Sound Forge 9, the newest version of their professional digital audio editing application. The industry-leading Sound Forge software has been a tool of choice among media professionals for more than a decade and is now the cornerstone application in their new digital audio production suite, which provides users with all of the essential tools for recording, editing, enhancing, processing, and encoding digital audio along with the capabilities to create and burn Red Book standard audio CDs.

Sound Forge 9 software contains a wide range of new features including multichannel audio support, which allows users to edit, process, and record multichannel audio files. Also new are workflow enhancements such as drag-and-drop editing between channels, and new wet/dry mix and crossfade options for effects. Additionally, Sound Forge 9 software provides new tools for audio analysis including phase scopes, mono compatibility meters, and multichannel-capable spectrum analysis. Other new features include channel and hardware meters, multichannel Windows Media format support, and Dolby® Digital AC-3 export. In addition to supporting Windows XP, Sound Forge 9 and CD Architect 5 software are now compatible with the new Microsoft® Windows® Vista™ operating system.

The new Sound Forge 9 audio production suite also includes nearly $700 of additional software; CD Architect™, Noise Reduction, and the Mastering Effects Bundle powered by iZotope™.

"Sound Forge has long been relied upon by the top production talent in the music industry," said Mark Ethier, CEO of iZotope, Inc. "By combining our expertise and success in mastering technology with Sony's award-winning audio processing platform, we feel this release provides the ultimate in precision and quality for audio professionals in modern media production."

Access to Sony Music Studios Engineers
Sound Forge 9 users can also now take advantage of a new partnership with Sony Music Studios Internet Mastering Services (SIM). This new feature allows Sound Forge 9 users to have their songs professionally mastered by the same engineers who work on the biggest projects in the music industry. Sound Forge 9 users can link to SIM directly from inside the application and easily upload songs for mastering.
