Motu Demonstrates V3HD at Safe Harbor

September 27, 2007

Jim Cooper from Motu was in the Safe Harbor studio Wednesday, September 26 demonstrating the new Motu V3HD video converter box.

V3HD turns your Mac or PC desktop or laptop computer into a powerful HD/SD video production workstation equipped with all the video and audio I/O you need, with one simple FireWire connection.

In this photo taken from the demo, a DVCPRO HD Final Cut Pro timeline is being sent over Firewire to the V3HD, which outputs to several different formats simultaneously, including HDMI, HD SDI, HD Component, SD SDI, SD Component, and S-video. This setup allows you to monitor your video in every available format while you're working.

Some standout features that were demonstrated:

#1 – CONNECTIVITY
The V3HD will work with practically ANY tape format and/or connection, SD or HD. Regardless of what format you shoot, you can easily send it through V3HD into your PC or Mac. Even if shooting on Panasonic with P2 card, V3HD is still used for monitoring and output (not capture).

This makes it convenient to monitor on variety of displays, as well as record edits to almost any record deck. This counts for AUDIO as well as video. Great for studios where clients are bringing in their own gear, will provide interface for most any setup.

#2 - LOW OVERHEAD
DVCPRO HD does not require the huge hard drive arrays and ultra-fast processors that uncompressed video needs. It even works great with a laptop!

#3 - AUDIO
Has comprehensive audio features and connections, great control over monitoring, mixing and routing of signals.

#4 - STAND-ALONE CONVENIENCE
Unit can be used without a PC connection for signal conversion, is portable.

#5 - PC or Mac
Some users have both and can switch as simply as unplugging FireWire cable.

#6 - DVCPRO HD
DVCPRO HD is a widely used standard with good quality and smaller file sizes, a good compromise on quality and system requirements. V3HD is a great choice for those using Panasonic DVCPRO gear in their workflow already.

V3HD is shipping now - order yours today!

Matrox DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go Now Mac-compatible

December 4, 2006

Matrox Graphics Inc. announced that the award-winning Matrox DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go are now compatible with select Mac systems. From the Graphics eXpansion Module (GXM) product line, both DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go are palm-sized boxes that connect externally to a notebook or desktop computer and uniquely allow users to attach two or three monitors respectively for an incredible multi-monitor configuration.

"Matrox GXM technology will revolutionize the Mac platform with its unprecedented portability and ease-of-use," says Caroline Injoyan, business development manager, Matrox Graphics Inc. "Now Mac users can finally benefit from Matrox's multi-monitor expertise, traditionally reserved for PC environments, by simply incorporating a GXM into their system setup."

DualHead2Go enables a fully symmetric dual-monitor setup for Mac notebooks or desktops, creating the ideal workspace for managing multiple projects or office applications simultaneously. If a larger desktop space is required, the TripleHead2Go can be used to work with a triple-monitor setup. The extended desktop space across multiple monitors is the optimum backdrop for professionals working with digital content creation applications: they will have ample room to place all their menus, toolbars, editing timelines, and project windows across multiple monitors and experience first hand the productivity benefits of multi-monitor computing.

Graphics eXpansion Modules (GXM) are external devices that are simple to setup-there is no need to open up the computer to insert parts or to replace any hardware or software. The operating system detects the DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go like an ultra-widescreen monitor that supports resolutions of up to 2560x10241 and 3840x10241 respectively. The GXM technology then splits this ultra-wide resolution into two or three standard resolutions and sends the information to the attached monitors. The GXM maximizes the capabilities of the Mac by using its existing graphics hardware and software for all 2D, 3D, and video acceleration.

A complete list of compatible systems is posted on the Matrox website and maximum resolutions supported may vary depending on the system model or GPU. Visit http://www.matrox.com/graphics/mac for complete Mac details.

Matrox Ships Over 1,000 MXO Units in First 60 Days

September 14, 2006

Matrox ® Video Products Group today announced that over 1000 Matrox MXO units have been shipped to users worldwide in the first 60 days of production. An easy-to-use DVI-to-audio/video output adapter for the Mac, Matrox MXO takes the DVI output from a Mac computer or laptop and converts it to broadcast-quality video. Users can preview Apple Final Cut Pro projects or the output of other QuickTime-based applications such as Apple Soundtrack Pro and Motion, as well as Adobe After Effects as they will actually appear on TV and record them frame accurately to tape. Matrox MXO can also be used to provide a flicker-free video output of the computer desktop with any application, allowing the user to record and display Keynote and PowerPoint presentations, web browser sessions, and software application training.

"It's obvious that Matrox MXO, with its patent-pending technology, provides important workflow enhancements for video production professionals on the Mac platform," said Alberto Cieri, Matrox sales and marketing director. "Broadcasters, post facilities, and project studios across the globe have discovered the benefits inherent in this costeffective external box, that's so easy-to-use."

"One of the greatest things about the MXO is its portability. It has all external connections so we can plug it into whichever system we need it for. We can even take it on the road with our MacBook Pro and get realtime HD monitoring," said Greg Mulvey, Creative Director at Presto Productions. "Another important feature is the realtime HDV to SD conversion. That's already saved me literally days in rendering time."

"Wow! Now I have a monitoring solution for HDV, not to mention DVCPRO HD, without the added expense of a capture card and SDI to DVI adapter," said Ned Soltz, Editor, Producer, Consultant, and Writer about all things video. "Wait a minute... I even have a solution for presenting HD material. My clients and I are all impressed. Way to go Matrox!!"

"MXO is the box you look at and say why didn't someone think of this sooner," said Steve Oakley, Digital Illusionist, DP, Motion Graphics Designer and Editor, at Practical Illusions. "I use it on my G5's second DVI port for realtime SD downconverts of my HDV edits in FCP. Everything I shoot now is HD which I bring in via FireWire, and then output to SD analog component BetaSP. I've also been using it to drive an LCD display with the pass thru DVI connector to see both HD on my LCD and SD on my broadcast CRT at the same time so I know what it looks like in both formats. The MXO can letterbox or center cut HD to 4:3 on its downconverts with a single setting change, in real time, so I can see how each format works which is great with clients sitting in the room."

Key features of Matrox MXO

  • DVI to broadcast-quality video conversion in HD and SD
  • Portable, hot-swappable external box
  • Genlockable HD/SD SDI, HD/SD analog component, Y/C, and composite outputs
