Rimage and TDK Announce Thermal Printable Blu-ray Discs
Rimage Corporation, a leader in disc publishing, and TDK, a world leader in digital recording solutions, have announced the release of the industry's first thermal printable Blu-ray disc. The discs are on display at TDK booth #C10741 and Rimage booth #SL1843 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show, which is taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 24-27, 2006. By combining Rimage's innovative direct-to-disc print technology with thermal printable Blu-ray discs from TDK, the two companies have created a powerful information storage medium that can hold up to 25 GB of critical data. Rimage's EverestTM thermal retransfer technology enables users to create permanent, colorful, high-resolution prints bonded directly to the surface of a CD or DVD. The resulting print is professional looking and virtually indestructible — impervious to water, scratches and dirt. TDK Blu-ray Discs provide recording technology from the only media company that's a founding member of the Blu-ray Disc Association. 25GB single-layer recordable and rewritable discs enable massive data backups and the highest resolution HD recording. The new thermal printable Blu-ray discs enable users to print custom text and graphics directly on the label-side surface of the disc using the Rimage Everest printer. Rimage Corporation has also announced the release of a new enterprise-quality Blu-ray disc publishing solution. The new solution incorporates up to four Pioneer BDR-101A Blu-ray Disc/DVD writers with Rimage Producer III disc publishers for automatically creating large volumes of professional CDs and DVDs with customized digital content and direct-to-disc printed labels. Rimage also announced today the industry's first thermal printable Blu-ray disc with leading digital recording solutions company TDK. The combined announcements result in a robust Blu-ray disc publishing solution from Rimage that leverages the company's unique direct-to-disc thermal retransfer print technology and quickly produces DVDs with 25 GB of storage capacity. The Pioneer BDR-101A allows professional users to test and author high-definition Blu-ray disc content, while also delivering the ability for high-capacity data storage. The drive can read BD-ROM discs, read/write single layer BD-R and BD-RE discs, read DVD-ROM, and read/write most DVD recordable media formats. " Primera® Announces Bravo™ XR-Blu™ Disc Publisher
Primera Technology, Inc., the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of automated CD/DVD disc publishing equipment, has announced its Bravo XR-Blu Disc Publisher. Bravo XR-Blu is the world’s first automated burn and print device to support new high-capacity Blu-ray Disc recorders and media. Along with its built-in robotics and full-color direct-to-disc inkjet printing, the Bravo XR-Blu incorporates Pioneer Electronics (USA), Inc.’s new BDR-101A Blu-ray Disc/DVD Recorder. Blu-ray enabled recording software based on technology from Sonic Solutions®, the leader in Digital Media Software, is included to provide a complete and professional Blu-ray Disc publishing solution. The initial release of the Bravo XR-Blu utilizes single-layer discs to store up to 25 gigabytes of data. An upgrade will be available shortly after launch that will allow dual-layer media, which stores up to 50 gigabytes of data per disc. Since up to 50 discs can be loaded into the Bravo XR-Blu at a time, this gives a total native capacity of up to 2.5 terabytes of data that can be published in a single session. Blu-ray discs utilize shorter wavelength blue lasers in order to store far more data than any other optical disc technology commercially available. As the first automated system to use Blu-ray technology, the Bravo XR-Blu is expected to be used in a wide variety of cutting-edge applications in business, government, military, medical, banking, insurance, back-up and archival, high-definition video, digital movie post production and more. "Blu-ray Disc technology fulfills the rapidly growing need for massive amounts of storage space in a portable, stable format," said Andy Parsons, senior vice president at Pioneer Electronics (USA), Inc. "However, many business-to-business and industrial applications require automation of the recording and disc printing functions. That’s why Pioneer is excited to be partnering with Primera to provide a fully-automated and integrated solution for burning and printing Blu-ray Discs." Jim Taylor, General Manager of the Advanced Technology Group at Sonic Solutions, adds that "Primera and Sonic have a very successful history of offering the latest and most advanced solutions for the CD/DVD disc publishing market. The Bravo XR-Blu is yet another example of how this strong partnership has resulted in a solution that takes advantage of the most recent advances in disc recording technology." Easy Setup and Operation A unique feature of the Bravo XR-Blu is the built-in blue LED array that illuminates the interior, making it simple to view operation. All supplies replenishment is accomplished from the front panel, allowing the unit to be placed almost anywhere – on a desk, a shelf or on a countertop. Two units can be stacked vertically to effectively double capacity and throughput. An optional rack mount kit is available for a standard 4U, 19" wide rack. "We’re proud to be the first company in the world to offer a professional, automated burn and print disc publishing system based upon Blu-ray Disc technology," said Mark D. Strobel, vice president of sales and marketing at Primera Technology, Inc. "The increased capacity of Blu-ray Discs over standard DVD-R media will open up new applications and solutions that until now were impossible due to storage space constraints." And, spectacular Mandalay Bay will host the 16th Annual WEVA EXPO August 21-24th. Sponsored by Adobe Systems, the 2006 city-wide WEVA Town Meeting Tour stops will also include: Chicago (March 27), Atlanta (March 30), Los Angeles (April 3), San Jose (April 5), and Las Vegas (April 25 - NAB week). "WEVA's ongoing commitment to education in our industry is one of the things that GPVA values the most. The annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour has been a large part of that education and we look forward to being part of the Tour this season," said Garner. WEVA EXPO 2006 Heads to the Beaches of Mandalay Bay "We are thrilled to have Mandalay Bay, a jewel property, as our official host for WEVA EXPO 2006 for what will be our industry’s biggest and best convention and trade show to date," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman. All WEVA EXPO 2006 programs and activities, including the 2006 WEVA Trade Show will be held at Mandalay Bay. Room reservations for WEVA attendees will open through Mandalay Bay next week. Choice of Mandalay Bay or Luxor "We have listened closely to WEVA members, and in working with Mandalay Bay we finally found a diamond property that has responded to our requests and is able to accommodate suggestions from our attendees by expanding the options that WEVA EXPO 2006 can offer," said Chapman. The WEVA EXPO 2006 dates at Mandalay Bay represent a change from the early August dates first announced (without location) last fall. "Unlike in the past, it became clear this year, with so many new industry technologies emerging all at once and overlapping, that the Siggraph show scheduled the same week in early August was presenting a conflict for too many exhibitors who wanted to be able to have their top staff and extensive displays and workstations set up at both shows," said Chapman. "It’s the first time an EXPO date has been changed, but it’s also the first time we feel we have finally found exceptional choices in accommodations for everyone at a resort property that is absolutely awesome — and one that allows our association ample room for growth!" Cutting-Edge Programs on New Creativity, Techniques, and Emerging Technologies "The 2006 WEVA Town Meeting Tour and professional development workshops planned for this new season will usher in new advancements in emerging technologies that affect all videographers," Zale said. Special events and programs arranged for the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour and new WEVA Institute workshops will be unveiled later this week on the WEVA Town Meeting and WEVA Institute sections of the WEVA website along with instant online registration. Official EXPO Opening Happens Monday August 21 A special orientation and Welcome Event for first-time WEVA EXPO attendees will be presented Monday morning August 21 at 10:30 a.m. And, Dan Krieger, Chairman of the WEVA Continuing Education Committee notes that a new round of testing for the WEVA Merited Professional Videographer (MPV) accreditation will also be held at this year’s EXPO.
