Jim Cooper from Motu was in the Safe Harbor studio Wednesday, September 26 demonstrating the new Motu V3HD video converter box.

V3HD turns your Mac or PC desktop or laptop computer into a powerful HD/SD video production workstation equipped with all the video and audio I/O you need, with one simple FireWire connection.

In this photo taken from the demo, a DVCPRO HD Final Cut Pro timeline is being sent over Firewire to the V3HD, which outputs to several different formats simultaneously, including HDMI, HD SDI, HD Component, SD SDI, SD Component, and S-video. This setup allows you to monitor your video in every available format while you're working.

Some standout features that were demonstrated:

#1 – CONNECTIVITY
The V3HD will work with practically ANY tape format and/or connection, SD or HD. Regardless of what format you shoot, you can easily send it through V3HD into your PC or Mac. Even if shooting on Panasonic with P2 card, V3HD is still used for monitoring and output (not capture).

This makes it convenient to monitor on variety of displays, as well as record edits to almost any record deck. This counts for AUDIO as well as video. Great for studios where clients are bringing in their own gear, will provide interface for most any setup.

#2 - LOW OVERHEAD
DVCPRO HD does not require the huge hard drive arrays and ultra-fast processors that uncompressed video needs. It even works great with a laptop!

#3 - AUDIO
Has comprehensive audio features and connections, great control over monitoring, mixing and routing of signals.

#4 - STAND-ALONE CONVENIENCE
Unit can be used without a PC connection for signal conversion, is portable.

#5 - PC or Mac
Some users have both and can switch as simply as unplugging FireWire cable.

#6 - DVCPRO HD
DVCPRO HD is a widely used standard with good quality and smaller file sizes, a good compromise on quality and system requirements. V3HD is a great choice for those using Panasonic DVCPRO gear in their workflow already.

V3HD is shipping now - order yours today!

Adobe Debuts Photoshop Lightroom 1.0

February 5, 2007

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) has announced that Adobe Photoshop® Lightroom™ 1.0 software is now available for pre-order and is expected to ship in mid-February 2007. Photoshop Lightroom enables professional photographers to import, manage and present large volumes of digital photographs, helping photographers spend more time behind the lens and less time at the computer. With more than 500,000 photographers participating in the public beta program over the last 12 months, Photoshop Lightroom now includes a wealth of innovative features that streamline digital photography workflows. Recognizing the photography community for their efforts, Adobe is offering Photoshop Lightroom at a special introductory price of US $199 through April 30, 2007 at the Adobe Store. Photoshop Lightroom will later sell for an estimated street price of US $299.

"It’s an unlikely scenario that professional photographers would moonlight as software developers," said John Loiacono, senior vice president, Creative Solutions Business Unit at Adobe. "Fortunately for us, they were willing to give it a shot. Everything, from image viewing and evaluation tools to timesaving editing features, was developed with the help of photographers. This was truly a collaborative effort and we extend our thanks to everyone who provided invaluable feedback to help us deliver a powerhouse professional photography tool."

Lightroom Feature Advancements
Photoshop Lightroom includes new functionality added since beta 4.1, with significant changes to the Library and Develop modules complementing improvements to the Slideshow, Print and Web components. While in the Library module, new advanced keywording tools help photographers filter through large collections, and an improved import dialogue with more flexible file handling allows more choice when determining file location. The new Key Metadata Browser provides quick access to key information tags with an improved ranking and rating system that now incorporates color labels and a pick/reject system that sorts and locates photographs faster than ever. New to the Develop module, Virtual Copies and Snapshot tools help present multiple versions of the same image, providing the most choice to clients without the confusion of saving separate physical versions.

Additional tools added include a Hue, Saturation and Luminance targeted adjustment tool for precise and intuitive image edits. Clone and Healing features provide non-destructive edits to eliminate sensor dust across one or many images.

High-Quality Raw Processing
Photoshop Lightroom leverages Adobe Camera Raw technology and supports over 150 native raw file formats, in addition to JPEG and TIFF, bringing raw conversion into a single workflow experience. The latest camera models supported include the Nikon D40 and D80 and the Pentax K10D. This support means that photographers can use Lightroom with even the newest cameras on the market, knowing that the image files will be recognized today and in the future. Upon import, files can be converted to the Digital Negative specification (DNG) or renamed and segmented by folder or date. DNG is an industry-wide initiative to create a universal file format for solving workflow and archiving issues. It aims to eliminate barriers to new camera adoption while giving professional photographers the confidence that their digital body of work is securely archived and will remain accessible as digital imaging technology evolves.

"Photoshop Lightroom gives me the capabilities to get everything out of a raw file. Now I can easily duplicate enhancements and apply them across a range of similar images almost instantly," said Denis Reggie, a nationally renowned celebrity and society wedding photographer. "Lightroom is brilliantly conceived and masterfully executed. I can see my digital workflow moving fully to Lightroom now that it is final."

Pricing and Availability
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom will ship in mid-February 2007 and is available for pre-order in the United States and Canada through the Adobe Store at www.adobe.com/store for a special introductory price of US $199. The $100 discount is offered to all customers through April 30, 2007 in appreciation of loyal Photoshop users, early supporters of Photoshop Lightroom and beta participants who devoted time, energy and feedback throughout the process. Photoshop Lightroom will later sell for an estimated street price of US $299. Recommended system requirements are Macintosh OSX 10.4.3, 1 GHz PowerPC G4 processor or Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2, Intel® Pentium 4® Processor, and 768 MB RAM and a 1024x768 resolution screen. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a Universal Binary application that will run natively on PowerPC and new Intel-based Macintosh systems.

The announcement of Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 signifies the official conclusion of the groundbreaking Lightroom beta program. Users of Lightroom beta will have access to the program until its expiration on February 28, 2007.

Mark your calendar! A brand new slate of exciting professional development programs for wedding and event videographers starts…NOW!

Philadelphia will be the site for the official kick-off of the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour, and all-new WEVA Institute workshops on Monday March 20!

And, spectacular Mandalay Bay will host the 16th Annual WEVA EXPO August 21-24th.

Sponsored by Adobe Systems, the 2006 city-wide WEVA Town Meeting Tour stops will also include: Chicago (March 27), Atlanta (March 30), Los Angeles (April 3), San Jose (April 5), and Las Vegas (April 25 - NAB week).

WEVA and its members will be working in tandem with some of the largest local videographers associations in the nation in producing and presenting a fresh, inspiring, and cutting-edge series of professional development programs custom designed for wedding & event videographers.

2006 Tour to Kick-Off in Philadelphia
"Our association will be building on the huge success of the World Record Wedding Video Event last month organized by the Sacramento Professional Videographers Association (SPVA), which WEVA co-sponsored and where our association presented a post-Event day of state-of-the-art programming at the WEVA Institute workshops. We're looking forward to following up on this success with the start of the 2006 Town Meetings. All-new and exciting presentations by leading videographers will kick off the Town Meeting in Philadelphia, which is home to one of the largest and most active local videographers associations in the country," Chapman said.

"It is with great anticipation and pride that we receive the news of the 2006 WEVA Town Meeting's visit to Philly," said Bruce Garner, President of the Greater Philadelphia Videographers Association (GPVA).

"WEVA's ongoing commitment to education in our industry is one of the things that GPVA values the most. The annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour has been a large part of that education and we look forward to being part of the Tour this season," said Garner.

WEVA EXPO 2006 Heads to the Beaches of Mandalay Bay
"It's official! The WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo will be held at the world famous Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV on August 21-24, 2006," said WEVA Director of Association Communications Dan Argenas.

"We are thrilled to have Mandalay Bay, a jewel property, as our official host for WEVA EXPO 2006 for what will be our industry’s biggest and best convention and trade show to date," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.

All WEVA EXPO 2006 programs and activities, including the 2006 WEVA Trade Show will be held at Mandalay Bay. Room reservations for WEVA attendees will open through Mandalay Bay next week.

Choice of Mandalay Bay or Luxor
This year, WEVA EXPO attendees will have the choice of staying at Mandalay Bay at the rate of just $139/night or at Luxor, which is directly connected to Mandalay Bay by indoor tram and walkway at the rate of just $99/night.

"We have listened closely to WEVA members, and in working with Mandalay Bay we finally found a diamond property that has responded to our requests and is able to accommodate suggestions from our attendees by expanding the options that WEVA EXPO 2006 can offer," said Chapman.

The WEVA EXPO 2006 dates at Mandalay Bay represent a change from the early August dates first announced (without location) last fall. "Unlike in the past, it became clear this year, with so many new industry technologies emerging all at once and overlapping, that the Siggraph show scheduled the same week in early August was presenting a conflict for too many exhibitors who wanted to be able to have their top staff and extensive displays and workstations set up at both shows," said Chapman. "It’s the first time an EXPO date has been changed, but it’s also the first time we feel we have finally found exceptional choices in accommodations for everyone — at a resort property that is absolutely awesome — and one that allows our association ample room for growth!"

Cutting-Edge Programs on New Creativity, Techniques, and Emerging Technologies
The unveiling of a stellar slate of WEVA EXPO 2006 seminars, workshops, system training sessions and networking activities set to take professional wedding and event videographers worldwide to a whole new level of creativity, skills, and profitability is already being planned, said John Zale, WEVA’s Director of Educational Development.

"The 2006 WEVA Town Meeting Tour and professional development workshops planned for this new season will usher in new advancements in emerging technologies that affect all videographers," Zale said.

"Our goal for the 2006 Tour, which will lead right into WEVA EXPO is to put WEVA members right on the cutting-edge of techniques and technology that will improve workflow and result in new business, new bookings at higher levels, and even new weekday work."

Special events and programs arranged for the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour and new WEVA Institute workshops will be unveiled later this week on the WEVA Town Meeting and WEVA Institute sections of the WEVA website along with instant online registration.

Official EXPO Opening Happens Monday August 21
More information will be posted shortly for the WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo, which will officially open at 5:30 p.m. at Mandalay Bay on Monday August 21, 2006. WEVA EXPO 2006 will conclude by 5:00 p.m. Thursday August 24, 2006. An all-new slate of optional, pre-convention workshops will be held Monday afternoon starting at 12:30 p.m.

A special orientation and Welcome Event for first-time WEVA EXPO attendees will be presented Monday morning August 21 at 10:30 a.m.

And, Dan Krieger, Chairman of the WEVA Continuing Education Committee notes that a new round of testing for the WEVA Merited Professional Videographer (MPV) accreditation will also be held at this year’s EXPO.

Watch the WEVA website for more details on all of the outstanding new programs coming up from the Wedding & Event Videographers Association International.

January 17, 2006

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) has unveiled Adobe® Production Studio, an extension of the Adobe Creative Suite family of products. The most complete post-production software solution available today, Adobe Production Studio combines full new versions of Adobe's world class video and graphics applications—Adobe After Effects® 7.0, Adobe Premiere Pro® 2.0, Adobe Audition® 2.0, Adobe Encore® 2.0 and the latest versions of Adobe Photoshop® CS2 and Adobe Illustrator® CS2—with time-saving innovations such as Adobe Dynamic Link that deliver a highly efficient workflow experience. Adobe Production Studio also integrates Flash Video (FLV) export capabilities to provide video professionals with a new, fluid method of delivering content to the Web using this ubiquitous Web video standard.

"From individual creatives and videographers to high-end production studios, our customers create award winning work that engages audiences worldwide," said Shantanu Narayen, president and COO of Adobe. "With unparalleled integration between milestone releases of After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Photoshop CS2, the workflow productivity that Dynamic Link delivers, and new Flash Video support, Adobe Production Studio saves users time so they can focus on their creative challenges."

Intelligent Workflow Removes Production Bottlenecks
Adobe Production Studio delivers ground-breaking workflow improvements that allow users to maximize their productivity. Adobe Dynamic Link allows users to move After Effects compositions directly into Adobe Premiere Pro and Encore DVD, without having to render them first. Changes are automatically updated, so users can instantly see refinements in context. Other productivity-enhancing workflow features include: a new unified interface; the ability to capture footage using Adobe Premiere Pro from within After Effects; and Adobe Bridge, a full-featured file browser that can be launched independently or accessed from any Production Studio component. With Adobe Production Studio, users can maintain creative momentum within an integrated post-production environment.

"Adobe is clearly committed to the video and post-production professional," said Lance Bachelder, Supervising Editor for O Entertainment! "Adobe Production Studio will excite a lot of people and give those looking for a totally integrated workflow for editing, motion graphics, effects, sound design, and DVD authoring a true `pro' solution."

Design with Power and Efficiency
Adobe Production Studio combines Adobe's world-class video and audio applications with the indispensable graphics capabilities of Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2. Benefiting from the global reach of the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), client reviews can be expedited with Adobe Clip Notes, a powerful new way to get feedback on Adobe Premiere Pro projects. High-fidelity support for OpenGL 2.0 in After Effects speeds production time, while new animation presets make it easy to quickly create great-looking animations. The new low-latency mixing engine in Adobe Audition delivers instant results, and Adobe Encore DVD includes the ability to easily create slideshows. Plus, more than eight gigabytes of royalty-free design assets give users a head start on any creative project.

Broad Support for Industry-Standard Technologies
Extensive support for industry standards, formats, and hardware provides flexibility to easily integrate Adobe Production Studio into existing workflows. Both After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro introduce the ability to export Flash Video files, so users can integrate Adobe Production Studio into Flash workflows for the delivery of video content for the Web. High definition formats are supported at popular resolution and frame rates and content from HDV cameras can be edited natively. 32-bit float High Dynamic Range (HDR) color in After Effects Professional and 10-bit YUV color in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 ensure pristine color quality. Support for 32-bit audio throughout the Adobe Production Studio delivers high-fidelity audio output.
