Sonnet Technologies, a leader in providing local storage systems for professional users of Macintosh®, Windows®, and UNIX® systems in the film, video, and broadcast industries, today launched the Fusion™ F2 portable RAID storage system, which provides speed, reliability, ruggedness and convenience for on-location video capture or remote use when grid power is unavailable. Fusion F2 features 640GB of storage using two 2.5-inch drives mounted side-by-side in a rugged enclosure, ensuring fast and secure storage in a low-profile, compact design measuring just 5.9 x 6.2 x 0.72 inches. The diminutive Fusion F2 delivers remarkable performance with data transfer rates up to twice as fast as a pair of FireWire 800 drives.

"Products in our Fusion line are designed to bring uncompromising performance and reliability to storage applications in film and video editing, as well as professional content capture. Fusion F2 offers the same high standard in a compact, low-power package intended for portable use," said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. "The 3/4" thin unit slides easily into a case for transport, and can be used virtually anywhere."

Sonnet’s Fusion F2 features two eSATA data connections and is designed for use with the Sonnet Tempo™ SATA ExpressCard/34 adapter for the MacBook® Pro and Windows® notebooks. By connecting via SATA interface, Fusion F2 handily supports portable video capture in conjunction with an AJA® Video Systems Io HD, which requires dedicated use of FireWire® bandwidth. To protect priceless field footage, the Fusion F2 can be configured in RAID 1 mirrored mode, and still can capture Apple ProRes HQ HD fed from an AJA Io HD This protected mode also allows safe field transfer of Panasonic® P2, Sony® SxS Pro, or similar memory cards. Footage verification by a MacBook Pro/Fusion F2 system gives users the peace of mind to erase and reuse cards on location.

With its drives configured as a RAID 0 striped volume, Fusion F2 is capable of 126 MB/sec read and write data transfers (compared with 66 MB/sec connecting via FireWire 800), thus providing the ability to capture and play more streams of compressed video for portable video editing.

Fusion F2 was devised as a high-performance, high-reliability alternative to existing portable drive solutions. Each Fusion F2 drive is individually shock-isolated, not only protecting the drives during transport, but also virtually eliminating cross-coupled vibration, which, unchecked, can induce soft errors—a potential source of skipped frames. Fusion F2 is cool, quiet, and energy-efficient: side-by-side placement of its drives increases the metal case’s cooling surface area, thereby eliminating the need for a fan. Although Fusion F2 communicates via eSATA, it draws power from a FireWire 400 port, for truly portable operation.

Like all Sonnet products, Fusion F2 enjoys long-term support from a company with more than two decades in the computer performance enhancement business. As a provider of complete solutions, including controller cards, storage chassis, and tested hard drives, Sonnet provides a single point of support, thereby simplifying the purchase and maintenance of advanced storage systems.

Pricing and Availability
Fusion F2 will be available in February 2008 with a suggested price of US $895.

CalDigit, a leader in storage, is now shipping the HDPro Tower & Rack Mount 8 bay HDPro RAID storage solution. With capacities from 2.0TB up to 8.0TB, the HDPro has industry breakthrough PCI Express directattatch as a storage interface that connects the host and RAID controller at up to 20Gbps and eliminates the bottleneck of traditional storage interface and need of additional expensive host adapter.

When you have a need for large storage for your HD projects, or large media files, database, photos, images, the HDPro is your storage solution. Offering RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 with the HDPro you'll have safe and reliable operation all in one package, warranted for 3 years by a leader in HD storage, CalDigit Inc.

Prices start at $3999 for a 2TB system which includes a CalDigit Controller Card.

"With the overwhelming success of the field - proven HDPro Rack Mount version, we're very pleased to announce the much anticipated HDPro Tower is now shipping", said Jon Schilling, Account Manager of CalDigit Inc.

The CalDigit HDPro's unique architecture combines the best in value with the newest technology. The HDPro works with MacPro, G5, Mac OS X Server, Windows, and Linux workstations as well as other platforms.

Configures RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 with Single Hardware RAID Controller
The HDPro offers flexible RAID configuration options, enabling users to configure for maximum performance, maximum assurance for critical data security (double parity RAID 6) or maximum capacity(RAID 0). With single parity in RAID 5 mode, the HDPro features an advanced distributed parity algorithm, accessing data and parity blocks across all the drives in the disk array, this removes the limitation that the dedicated parity drive represents in RAID 3, improving write and read performance in RAID 5, HDPro can rebuild itself in the event of one drive failing. When configured in RAID 6 mode, fault tolerance is maintained by the world class CalDigit RAID engine ensuring that the parity information for any given block of data is placed on TWO drives separate from those used to store the data itself. Such double protection is to protect your valuable data even if two drives fail.

Single Hardware RAID controller prevents data loss by software striping.
Most SCSI and FC RAID rely on software striping to obtain the required data rate to edit and capture uncompressed 10 bit HD even those RAID storage have hardware RAID controllers inside. The HDPro configures all 8 hard drives with a single RAID controller and offers plenty of speed for uncompressed HD or 2K footage.

Up to 400MB/s. Ultra-fast Sustained data rate.
With the latest fast RAID processor and CalDigit's proprietary cache control technology, the HDPro delivers ultra fast sustained data rate for up to 60% of its capacity 400MB/s in RAID 5 and 380MB/s for entire capacity without help of software striping.

An Industry Breakthrough 20Gb/s Interface that leaves SCSI & Fibre Channel Speeds in its dust
Unlike Fibre Channel, SCSI, FireWire and eSATA RAID storage, the CalDigit HDPro is using a direct connection to the computers bridge chip and memory system combined with high link speeds. This direct link eliminates latency introduced by the conversion of other interfaces and provides superior bandwidth, availability and deployment flexibility over earlier-generation SCSI and Fibre Channel technology.

The CalDigit controller card includes error correction, and adapts to the speed of the slot automatically. The HDPro features up to 20Gb bandwidth for ultra-fast data transport between the storage system and the host computer. You get both superb speeds and reliable bandwidth for high-speed data transfer.

The Hefty Cache keeps pumping the data without taking a breath Because of HDPro's sustained and high speed data transfer rate, the size of controller cache can act as a bottleneck. For example, the video playback does not keep up with your movements on the timeline, and lag behind. Larger cache size keeps up with you as you edit and buffer the video files. For the critical application, you can increase HDPro controller cache up to 2GB.

Editing on the Go
Many RAID solutions in the marketplace can only be used on your desktop workstation. Because the RAID processor is in the HDPro, the HDPro in combination with the ExpressCard frees you from your studio for editing on the go. This also means that the external RAID storage for your laptop is no longer limited to FireWire and USB connectivites. The CalDigit ExpressCard easily plugs your HDPro into your MacBook Pro, or PC laptop, and enables you to edit DVCProHD, DVCAM, HDV, uncompressed SD and up to 10 bit uncompressed HD.

Mark your calendar! A brand new slate of exciting professional development programs for wedding and event videographers starts…NOW!

Philadelphia will be the site for the official kick-off of the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour, and all-new WEVA Institute workshops on Monday March 20!

And, spectacular Mandalay Bay will host the 16th Annual WEVA EXPO August 21-24th.

Sponsored by Adobe Systems, the 2006 city-wide WEVA Town Meeting Tour stops will also include: Chicago (March 27), Atlanta (March 30), Los Angeles (April 3), San Jose (April 5), and Las Vegas (April 25 - NAB week).

WEVA and its members will be working in tandem with some of the largest local videographers associations in the nation in producing and presenting a fresh, inspiring, and cutting-edge series of professional development programs custom designed for wedding & event videographers.

2006 Tour to Kick-Off in Philadelphia
"Our association will be building on the huge success of the World Record Wedding Video Event last month organized by the Sacramento Professional Videographers Association (SPVA), which WEVA co-sponsored and where our association presented a post-Event day of state-of-the-art programming at the WEVA Institute workshops. We're looking forward to following up on this success with the start of the 2006 Town Meetings. All-new and exciting presentations by leading videographers will kick off the Town Meeting in Philadelphia, which is home to one of the largest and most active local videographers associations in the country," Chapman said.

"It is with great anticipation and pride that we receive the news of the 2006 WEVA Town Meeting's visit to Philly," said Bruce Garner, President of the Greater Philadelphia Videographers Association (GPVA).

"WEVA's ongoing commitment to education in our industry is one of the things that GPVA values the most. The annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour has been a large part of that education and we look forward to being part of the Tour this season," said Garner.

WEVA EXPO 2006 Heads to the Beaches of Mandalay Bay
"It's official! The WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo will be held at the world famous Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV on August 21-24, 2006," said WEVA Director of Association Communications Dan Argenas.

"We are thrilled to have Mandalay Bay, a jewel property, as our official host for WEVA EXPO 2006 for what will be our industry’s biggest and best convention and trade show to date," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.

All WEVA EXPO 2006 programs and activities, including the 2006 WEVA Trade Show will be held at Mandalay Bay. Room reservations for WEVA attendees will open through Mandalay Bay next week.

Choice of Mandalay Bay or Luxor
This year, WEVA EXPO attendees will have the choice of staying at Mandalay Bay at the rate of just $139/night or at Luxor, which is directly connected to Mandalay Bay by indoor tram and walkway at the rate of just $99/night.

"We have listened closely to WEVA members, and in working with Mandalay Bay we finally found a diamond property that has responded to our requests and is able to accommodate suggestions from our attendees by expanding the options that WEVA EXPO 2006 can offer," said Chapman.

The WEVA EXPO 2006 dates at Mandalay Bay represent a change from the early August dates first announced (without location) last fall. "Unlike in the past, it became clear this year, with so many new industry technologies emerging all at once and overlapping, that the Siggraph show scheduled the same week in early August was presenting a conflict for too many exhibitors who wanted to be able to have their top staff and extensive displays and workstations set up at both shows," said Chapman. "It’s the first time an EXPO date has been changed, but it’s also the first time we feel we have finally found exceptional choices in accommodations for everyone — at a resort property that is absolutely awesome — and one that allows our association ample room for growth!"

Cutting-Edge Programs on New Creativity, Techniques, and Emerging Technologies
The unveiling of a stellar slate of WEVA EXPO 2006 seminars, workshops, system training sessions and networking activities set to take professional wedding and event videographers worldwide to a whole new level of creativity, skills, and profitability is already being planned, said John Zale, WEVA’s Director of Educational Development.

"The 2006 WEVA Town Meeting Tour and professional development workshops planned for this new season will usher in new advancements in emerging technologies that affect all videographers," Zale said.

"Our goal for the 2006 Tour, which will lead right into WEVA EXPO is to put WEVA members right on the cutting-edge of techniques and technology that will improve workflow and result in new business, new bookings at higher levels, and even new weekday work."

Special events and programs arranged for the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour and new WEVA Institute workshops will be unveiled later this week on the WEVA Town Meeting and WEVA Institute sections of the WEVA website along with instant online registration.

Official EXPO Opening Happens Monday August 21
