Innovative technology enhances data security, manageability and work environment – Webinar on January 13, 2010

Safe Harbor Computers, a leading equipment and software retailer with over 20 years experience supplying video and post-production professionals, is pleased to announce that it now offers remote computing products featuring Teradici Corporation’s PC-over-IP® (PCoIP®) technology.

Remote computing improves data security, simplifies IT management and offers a quieter, cooler environment by maintaining all data and hardware in a secure, central location. PCoIP technology enables remote computing without compromising performance or productivity even with demanding graphical 3D applications, making it ideal for video, post-production, media and engineering professionals.

Designed specifically for demanding graphics applications, PCoIP technology supports dual-display configurations up to 1920x1200, full frame-rate HD video, bidirectional stereo audio and (virtually) all USB devices including isochronous audio and video devices.

Safe Harbor offers complete PCoIP solutions consisting of both a server-side component and a desktop client. The PCoIP Host Card is a PCIe card that installs in a PC or workstation and performs all remote processing without placing any additional load on the host CPU, leaving the host machine to run its applications as fast as ever. On the desk, the PCoIP "zero-client" virtually eliminates desktop management because they have no operating system or device drivers so they never require OS patches, driver updates, anti-virus software or signatures. Safe Harbor’s zero-client options include both a standalone PCoIP desktop portal that connects to existing monitors and integrated monitors with built-in PCoIP hardware – simply plug your keyboard, mouse and network cable directly into the monitor.

To learn more about PCoIP technology, join Safe Harbor and Teradici for a webinar at 11:00am CT on Wednesday, January 13 – see Safe Harbor website for details (www.sharbor.com).

The Benefits of Remoting… Finally Realized
Enhanced security. Reduced management costs. Effective collaboration. Remote access. A quieter, less cluttered workspace. Space, electricity and cooling savings.

Every company has its own reasons for deploying remote desktops, but until now all have suffered the same drawbacks: a frustrating user experience; long response times; poor graphics; desktop management headaches. Until now…

The PC-over-IP (PCoIP®) Remote Desktop Add-In Solution delivers a user’s desktop from a centralized host PC with an uncompromised end-user experience over standard IP networks. With full-frame-rate dual-DVI video, full-duplex high-definition audio and transparent USB support, even the most demanding user won’t be able to tell that the computer isn’t under the desk regardless of the application or graphics.

Two components deliver this flawless experience. In the host PC, a PCoIP Host Card encodes the entire user experience and transmits it "pixels-only" over the IP network. On the desktop, the PCoIP Portal presents the experience and provides full peripheral connectivity through two DVI-I video outputs, four USB ports and headphone, speaker and microphone jacks.

Together, they provide graphics performance, responsiveness, security and peripheral support previously impossible with remote solutions.

Enhanced Security, Minimal Management
PCoIP eliminates the management complexities and overhead of traditional thin clients. The Desktop Portal has no CPU, operating system, drivers, fan or any other elements that make traditional thin clients difficult to manage. You never have to worry about OS patches, driver updates, viruses, spyware, hacking or fan failures on the desktops.

PCoIP’s USB security enables IT staff to control exactly which peripherals users can connect, thereby preventing unauthorized devices and data copying. Unauthorized devices are suppressed by the portal right at the desktop; the host PC never even knows they were plugged in. All USB connection attempts, whether authorized or suppressed, are logged.

On the host PC, all remote processing is performed entirely by the PCoIP card with no additional load on the host CPU – so your host PC can devote all of its power to running applications. This means your applications continue running as quickly as ever and you won’t have to upgrade your machines to accommodate the remoting itself.

The PCoIP Remote Desktop Solution delivers the efficiency, security and cost savings of centralized computing without compromising your users’ desktop experience.

Fits Virtually Any Server, Any Application, Any Environment
The PCoIP Remote Desktop System can be added to any server equipped with a DVI video card and an open PCI-Express slot. The Desktop Portal can be used with any standard monitors (DVI or VGA with an adapter) and USB keyboard, mouse and peripherals. Both host card and portal connect to a standard 10/100/1000 Mbit IP network via RJ45 Ethernet connector.

ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, announced the release of two new models to its 4-Gigabit Fibre Channel Celerity Host Adapter product line, the Celerity FC-41EN and FC-42EN. The Celerity FC-41EN and FC-42EN represents the 4th generation of 4-Gigabit Celerity Host Adapters based on PMC-Sierra’s Tachyon® DE4 Fibre Channel controllers, offering speeds of up to 800 MB/sec. per channel and high-performance x4 PCI-Express host connections. ATTO was the first company to ship 4-Gb Fibre Channel host adapters in 2004 and with the introduction of 4-Gigabit Fibre Channel (4-Gb FC) products, ATTO adds the next generation in PCI-Express and Fibre Channel support.

With a high-performance architecture utilizing ATTO’s three years of experience with 4-Gigabit Fibre Channel, the Celerity FC-41EN and FC-42EN provide support for today’s performance-intensive application requirements such as high-definition video editing and 2K film production, along with other high-bandwidth environments, including rich content databases. In addition to utilizing PCI-Express and 4-Gigabit Fibre Channel, the Celerity FC-41EN and FC-42EN gain performance benefits by incorporating ATTO’s exclusive Advanced Data Streaming (ADS™) Technology. ADS enables the FC-41EN and FC-42EN to move large blocks of data faster and more efficiently than other available host adapters and alleviates data transfer bottlenecks while minimizing latency.

ATTO Celerity products incorporate PMC-Sierra’s industry-leading Tachyon family of controllers that feature a State-Machine design in which hardware acceleration is achieved throughout every phase of command processing. Other Fibre Channel controllers utilize embedded processors and firmware to move data, adding inherent delays to processing commands and requiring extensive re-qualification to upgrade existing products. Mark your calendar! A brand new slate of exciting professional development programs for wedding and event videographers starts…NOW!

Philadelphia will be the site for the official kick-off of the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour, and all-new WEVA Institute workshops on Monday March 20!

And, spectacular Mandalay Bay will host the 16th Annual WEVA EXPO August 21-24th.

Sponsored by Adobe Systems, the 2006 city-wide WEVA Town Meeting Tour stops will also include: Chicago (March 27), Atlanta (March 30), Los Angeles (April 3), San Jose (April 5), and Las Vegas (April 25 - NAB week).

WEVA and its members will be working in tandem with some of the largest local videographers associations in the nation in producing and presenting a fresh, inspiring, and cutting-edge series of professional development programs custom designed for wedding & event videographers.

2006 Tour to Kick-Off in Philadelphia
"Our association will be building on the huge success of the World Record Wedding Video Event last month organized by the Sacramento Professional Videographers Association (SPVA), which WEVA co-sponsored and where our association presented a post-Event day of state-of-the-art programming at the WEVA Institute workshops. We're looking forward to following up on this success with the start of the 2006 Town Meetings. All-new and exciting presentations by leading videographers will kick off the Town Meeting in Philadelphia, which is home to one of the largest and most active local videographers associations in the country," Chapman said.

"It is with great anticipation and pride that we receive the news of the 2006 WEVA Town Meeting's visit to Philly," said Bruce Garner, President of the Greater Philadelphia Videographers Association (GPVA).

"WEVA's ongoing commitment to education in our industry is one of the things that GPVA values the most. The annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour has been a large part of that education and we look forward to being part of the Tour this season," said Garner.

WEVA EXPO 2006 Heads to the Beaches of Mandalay Bay
"It's official! The WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo will be held at the world famous Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV on August 21-24, 2006," said WEVA Director of Association Communications Dan Argenas.

"We are thrilled to have Mandalay Bay, a jewel property, as our official host for WEVA EXPO 2006 for what will be our industry’s biggest and best convention and trade show to date," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.

All WEVA EXPO 2006 programs and activities, including the 2006 WEVA Trade Show will be held at Mandalay Bay. Room reservations for WEVA attendees will open through Mandalay Bay next week.

Choice of Mandalay Bay or Luxor
This year, WEVA EXPO attendees will have the choice of staying at Mandalay Bay at the rate of just $139/night or at Luxor, which is directly connected to Mandalay Bay by indoor tram and walkway at the rate of just $99/night.

"We have listened closely to WEVA members, and in working with Mandalay Bay we finally found a diamond property that has responded to our requests and is able to accommodate suggestions from our attendees by expanding the options that WEVA EXPO 2006 can offer," said Chapman.

The WEVA EXPO 2006 dates at Mandalay Bay represent a change from the early August dates first announced (without location) last fall. "Unlike in the past, it became clear this year, with so many new industry technologies emerging all at once and overlapping, that the Siggraph show scheduled the same week in early August was presenting a conflict for too many exhibitors who wanted to be able to have their top staff and extensive displays and workstations set up at both shows," said Chapman. "It’s the first time an EXPO date has been changed, but it’s also the first time we feel we have finally found exceptional choices in accommodations for everyone — at a resort property that is absolutely awesome — and one that allows our association ample room for growth!"

Cutting-Edge Programs on New Creativity, Techniques, and Emerging Technologies
The unveiling of a stellar slate of WEVA EXPO 2006 seminars, workshops, system training sessions and networking activities set to take professional wedding and event videographers worldwide to a whole new level of creativity, skills, and profitability is already being planned, said John Zale, WEVA’s Director of Educational Development.

"The 2006 WEVA Town Meeting Tour and professional development workshops planned for this new season will usher in new advancements in emerging technologies that affect all videographers," Zale said.

"Our goal for the 2006 Tour, which will lead right into WEVA EXPO is to put WEVA members right on the cutting-edge of techniques and technology that will improve workflow and result in new business, new bookings at higher levels, and even new weekday work."

Special events and programs arranged for the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour and new WEVA Institute workshops will be unveiled later this week on the WEVA Town Meeting and WEVA Institute sections of the WEVA website along with instant online registration.

Official EXPO Opening Happens Monday August 21
More information will be posted shortly for the WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo, which will officially open at 5:30 p.m. at Mandalay Bay on Monday August 21, 2006. WEVA EXPO 2006 will conclude by 5:00 p.m. Thursday August 24, 2006. An all-new slate of optional, pre-convention workshops will be held Monday afternoon starting at 12:30 p.m.

A special orientation and Welcome Event for first-time WEVA EXPO attendees will be presented Monday morning August 21 at 10:30 a.m.

And, Dan Krieger, Chairman of the WEVA Continuing Education Committee notes that a new round of testing for the WEVA Merited Professional Videographer (MPV) accreditation will also be held at this year’s EXPO.

Watch the WEVA website for more details on all of the outstanding new programs coming up from the Wedding & Event Videographers Association International.

EventDV to Unveil EVENTDV 25 at 4EVER Group Convention Awards Banquet January 9

December 6, 2005

The EVENTDV 25 honors the 25 "hottest" or most influential videographers working in the field today. "Our industry has excellent awards programs that recognize superior individual works and honor lifetime achievement," said EventDV editor Stephen F. Nathans. "But until now there's been no award designed specifically for videographers who are exerting a profound influence on the field right now. That's where the EVENTDV 25 comes in. Think of it as our 2005 All-Star Team."

EventDV began accepting nominations from its readers in July through an online voting system, and convened an Executive Committee comprised of five of the top videographers in the business to consider candidates for the list and debate key criteria. Nathans served as moderator for the committee. "There's more to being hot or influential than winning awards, as we discovered," Nathans said. "And just because you were a major player in the field 10 years ago doesn't mean your peers still regard you as influential today."

The main criteria for inclusion include the following: creating innovative or award-winning work, speaking at conferences, developing educational materials like instructional DVDs, contributing to magazines and online forums, and taking leadership roles in local and national associations. "For each honoree," Nathans said, "the qualifications were a little different."

Sponsors for the EVENTDV 25 are Sony and JVC.

The EVENTDV 25 will be presented in two places: at the 4EVER Group's Video 06 on January 9, and in the cover story of the January 2006 issue of EventDV. The EVENTDV 25 awards will be presented to honorees on the opening night of the convention at the Video 06 awards banquet, which runs from 7-11 PM. The presentation of the 4EVER Group's own Artistic Achievement Awards will headline the evening. EventDV is a Media Partner of Video 06.

Video 06, the 4EVER Event Video Group Convention and Trade Show runs January 9-12, 2006 at Disney's Coronado Resort in Orlando, Florida. Registration is still open. For more information on Video 06, visit http://www.4evergroup.org/conventionandtradeshow.html.

Published by Information Today, Inc. of Medford, New Jersey, EventDV is a monthly magazine with editorial offices in Madison, Wisconsin. With a current subscriber base of 24,000, the magazine is available free to qualified professional videographers. EventDV received a 2005 Folio Eddie Bronze Award for editorial excellence.
