GOTHENBURG, Sweden - April 6, 2010 - Craft Animations and Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) today announced the integration of certain Craft Director Studio plug-ins within the 2011 versions of Autodesk® 3ds Max®, Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design and Autodesk® Softimage® software. Based on cutting-edge research in autonomous control systems, Craft Director Studio provides interactive control and simulation of cameras and vehicles, which helps greatly reduce animation production times. "Craft Director Studio provides artists with advanced, in-the-box, rigging and physics simulation capabilities, which helps them to animate cameras and vehicles more quickly and realistically," said Stig Gruman, Autodesk vice president of digital entertainment. "It also allows artists to use a variety of input devices to create on-the-fly animation, helping make 3D animation as easy as playing a game." Craft Director Studio is designed to help simplify the production challenges of 3D artists, industrial designers and architects working in the following areas:

  • Video Game Development Artists can enhance in-game cinematics through a modular, configurable system that replicates a specific rig's animation within the game itself. Artists can then "drive" a vehicle within the creative environment, helping achieve a more realistic effect in less time.
  • Film and Broadcast Production - Animators can leverage more realistic and accurate vehicle behavior and traffic animation to more quickly complete visual effects shots.
  • Architectural Visualization Architects can more easily create walkthroughs of architectural designs using unique camera angles and views.

"We are proud to provide animators with a new era of interactive animation tools," said Craft Animations CEO Deborah Lygonis. "By eliminating multiple step animation and design processes, artists utilizing Craft Director Studio will be able to create a more efficient production pipeline. Industry leaders Namco Bandai, Electronic Arts and Lockheed Martin have all experienced faster results using our tools. The integration of certain tools into 3ds Max and Softimage can provide a great boost to productivity, offering Autodesk customers a greater return on investment."

The Craft Director Studio plug-in bundle will be included, free of charge, on the Samples DVDs that will be shipped with 3ds Max 2011, 3ds Max Design 2011 and Softimage 2011 software. The bundle includes:

  • Craft SoftMotionCam
  • Craft ObserverCam
  • Craft MultiStateCam
  • Craft HumanizerCam
  • Four Craft Pre-rigged Models

The 2011 versions of 3ds Max, 3ds Max Design and Softimage software are expected to be available for purchase on, or after, April 7, 2010. Artists who install the bundle as part of 3ds Max, 3ds Max Design or Softimage 2011 releases will also be eligible for limited-time, special promotional pricing for a Craft Bundle Upgrade, offered by Craft Animations. Waukesha, WI - February 16, 2010 – Safe Harbor Computers today announced the availability of two new collections from Electric Crayon Studio. Designed for users of the popular LightWave ® animation software, these sets include realistic planetary objects as well as ready-to-use scene files which can easily be modified to suit the user’s needs.

The single most requested graphical production element in either film or print is the planet earth. Whether an antique globe, a high-tech sphere, a moving map on the wall, or a hyper-realistic earth from space, representations of the earth are constantly part of the composition.

The GEM Collection (Globes - Earth and Moons) is designed to allow the creation of a stunning graphic quickly in LightWave ®. The globes include many styles such as paper, metal and wood, and some combinations as well. There are several earths depicting a surprising amount of variations, depending on cloud cover, atmospheric envelope, and nighttime cities. Also included are flat wall maps with built-in animations that loop, and the earth's moon as reconstructed from lunar satellites.

Scene files that cover many of the typical set ups that clients ask for, as well as scenes reminiscent of iconic movies, are included. Tutorial information on how to modify the scenes for specific needs and how to include other objects is also part of this package.

The Solar System Construction Set is used with LightWave ® to create quality animations and graphics of any planet in the solar system. All the planets, most of the major moons, and the sun are included in low, medium, and high-resolution objects and image maps.

The planets are textured starting with up-to-date NASA images with just a touch of artistic license. Cinematically constructed outer space depictions are waiting to be rendered. Training is included on how to change the timing and resolution of scenes, as well as adding additional objects to the scene. The Solar System Construction Set is the easiest way to add fantastic production value to any project, from web graphics to theatrical presentation.

Pricing and availability

Globes – Earth and Moons Set and Solar System Construction Set are available exclusively from Safe Harbor Computers, a leading reseller of editing and animation solutions for over 22 years. Priced at $49.99 each, or $89.98 as a bundle, the sets are delivered via electronic download. Available online at www.sharbor.com or by phone at (800) 544-6599

Mark your calendar! A brand new slate of exciting professional development programs for wedding and event videographers starts…NOW!

Philadelphia will be the site for the official kick-off of the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour, and all-new WEVA Institute workshops on Monday March 20!

And, spectacular Mandalay Bay will host the 16th Annual WEVA EXPO August 21-24th.

Sponsored by Adobe Systems, the 2006 city-wide WEVA Town Meeting Tour stops will also include: Chicago (March 27), Atlanta (March 30), Los Angeles (April 3), San Jose (April 5), and Las Vegas (April 25 - NAB week).

WEVA and its members will be working in tandem with some of the largest local videographers associations in the nation in producing and presenting a fresh, inspiring, and cutting-edge series of professional development programs custom designed for wedding & event videographers.

2006 Tour to Kick-Off in Philadelphia
"Our association will be building on the huge success of the World Record Wedding Video Event last month organized by the Sacramento Professional Videographers Association (SPVA), which WEVA co-sponsored and where our association presented a post-Event day of state-of-the-art programming at the WEVA Institute workshops. We're looking forward to following up on this success with the start of the 2006 Town Meetings. All-new and exciting presentations by leading videographers will kick off the Town Meeting in Philadelphia, which is home to one of the largest and most active local videographers associations in the country," Chapman said.

"It is with great anticipation and pride that we receive the news of the 2006 WEVA Town Meeting's visit to Philly," said Bruce Garner, President of the Greater Philadelphia Videographers Association (GPVA).

"WEVA's ongoing commitment to education in our industry is one of the things that GPVA values the most. The annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour has been a large part of that education and we look forward to being part of the Tour this season," said Garner.

WEVA EXPO 2006 Heads to the Beaches of Mandalay Bay
"It's official! The WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo will be held at the world famous Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV on August 21-24, 2006," said WEVA Director of Association Communications Dan Argenas.

"We are thrilled to have Mandalay Bay, a jewel property, as our official host for WEVA EXPO 2006 for what will be our industry’s biggest and best convention and trade show to date," said WEVA International Chairman Roy Chapman.

All WEVA EXPO 2006 programs and activities, including the 2006 WEVA Trade Show will be held at Mandalay Bay. Room reservations for WEVA attendees will open through Mandalay Bay next week.

Choice of Mandalay Bay or Luxor
This year, WEVA EXPO attendees will have the choice of staying at Mandalay Bay at the rate of just $139/night or at Luxor, which is directly connected to Mandalay Bay by indoor tram and walkway at the rate of just $99/night.

"We have listened closely to WEVA members, and in working with Mandalay Bay we finally found a diamond property that has responded to our requests and is able to accommodate suggestions from our attendees by expanding the options that WEVA EXPO 2006 can offer," said Chapman.

The WEVA EXPO 2006 dates at Mandalay Bay represent a change from the early August dates first announced (without location) last fall. "Unlike in the past, it became clear this year, with so many new industry technologies emerging all at once and overlapping, that the Siggraph show scheduled the same week in early August was presenting a conflict for too many exhibitors who wanted to be able to have their top staff and extensive displays and workstations set up at both shows," said Chapman. "It’s the first time an EXPO date has been changed, but it’s also the first time we feel we have finally found exceptional choices in accommodations for everyone — at a resort property that is absolutely awesome — and one that allows our association ample room for growth!"

Cutting-Edge Programs on New Creativity, Techniques, and Emerging Technologies
The unveiling of a stellar slate of WEVA EXPO 2006 seminars, workshops, system training sessions and networking activities set to take professional wedding and event videographers worldwide to a whole new level of creativity, skills, and profitability is already being planned, said John Zale, WEVA’s Director of Educational Development.

"The 2006 WEVA Town Meeting Tour and professional development workshops planned for this new season will usher in new advancements in emerging technologies that affect all videographers," Zale said.

"Our goal for the 2006 Tour, which will lead right into WEVA EXPO is to put WEVA members right on the cutting-edge of techniques and technology that will improve workflow and result in new business, new bookings at higher levels, and even new weekday work."

Special events and programs arranged for the 8th Annual WEVA Town Meeting Tour and new WEVA Institute workshops will be unveiled later this week on the WEVA Town Meeting and WEVA Institute sections of the WEVA website along with instant online registration.

Official EXPO Opening Happens Monday August 21
More information will be posted shortly for the WEVA 16th Annual Wedding & Event Video Expo, which will officially open at 5:30 p.m. at Mandalay Bay on Monday August 21, 2006. WEVA EXPO 2006 will conclude by 5:00 p.m. Thursday August 24, 2006. An all-new slate of optional, pre-convention workshops will be held Monday afternoon starting at 12:30 p.m.

A special orientation and Welcome Event for first-time WEVA EXPO attendees will be presented Monday morning August 21 at 10:30 a.m.

And, Dan Krieger, Chairman of the WEVA Continuing Education Committee notes that a new round of testing for the WEVA Merited Professional Videographer (MPV) accreditation will also be held at this year’s EXPO.

Watch the WEVA website for more details on all of the outstanding new programs coming up from the Wedding & Event Videographers Association International.

EventDV to Unveil EVENTDV 25 at 4EVER Group Convention Awards Banquet January 9

December 6, 2005

The EVENTDV 25 honors the 25 "hottest" or most influential videographers working in the field today. "Our industry has excellent awards programs that recognize superior individual works and honor lifetime achievement," said EventDV editor Stephen F. Nathans. "But until now there's been no award designed specifically for videographers who are exerting a profound influence on the field right now. That's where the EVENTDV 25 comes in. Think of it as our 2005 All-Star Team."

EventDV began accepting nominations from its readers in July through an online voting system, and convened an Executive Committee comprised of five of the top videographers in the business to consider candidates for the list and debate key criteria. Nathans served as moderator for the committee. "There's more to being hot or influential than winning awards, as we discovered," Nathans said. "And just because you were a major player in the field 10 years ago doesn't mean your peers still regard you as influential today."

The main criteria for inclusion include the following: creating innovative or award-winning work, speaking at conferences, developing educational materials like instructional DVDs, contributing to magazines and online forums, and taking leadership roles in local and national associations. "For each honoree," Nathans said, "the qualifications were a little different."

Sponsors for the EVENTDV 25 are Sony and JVC.

The EVENTDV 25 will be presented in two places: at the 4EVER Group's Video 06 on January 9, and in the cover story of the January 2006 issue of EventDV. The EVENTDV 25 awards will be presented to honorees on the opening night of the convention at the Video 06 awards banquet, which runs from 7-11 PM. The presentation of the 4EVER Group's own Artistic Achievement Awards will headline the evening. EventDV is a Media Partner of Video 06.

Video 06, the 4EVER Event Video Group Convention and Trade Show runs January 9-12, 2006 at Disney's Coronado Resort in Orlando, Florida. Registration is still open. For more information on Video 06, visit http://www.4evergroup.org/conventionandtradeshow.html.

Published by Information Today, Inc. of Medford, New Jersey, EventDV is a monthly magazine with editorial offices in Madison, Wisconsin. February 24, 2005

On Wednesday February 23, 2005, Michael Bryant of Sony Media Software demonstrated Vegas® 5, DVD ArchitectTM, ACID® Pro 5, and Sound Forge® 8. Over fifty people attended the three sessions, with a waiting list for additional seating.

"We were extremely pleased with the turnout," said Tiffani Banaszak, Director of Sales and Marketing for Safe Harbor Computers. "We had large groups at all three sessions, and even though it got warm in the studio, Michael showed the crowd enough ‘cool’ features of the software to get them fired up."

Many attendees commented that they would have liked more time to see each program, so a future seminar as well as group training is being planned.

Symphony Classes Highlight Sonicfire Pro's Value to Editors

Among the classes receiving Sonicfire Pro instruction is the "Introduction to Sound Design: From Theory to Practice" course taught by industry expert and author David Sonnenschein.

The inclusion of Sonicfire Pro in Video Symphony's curriculum further highlights the trend that a growing number of professional film and video editors recognize Sonicfire Pro as an important tool in creating audio backgrounds for their projects. Earlier this year, Avid began bundling Sonicfire Pro with its Avid Xpress Pro, Avid Xpress Studio, and Media Composer Adrenaline software. Additionally, an increasing number of professional projects are using Sonicfire Pro to score part or all of their scenes, including Rick McKay's award-winning documentary "Broadway: The Golden Age".

Editors are increasingly performing multiple tasks in the editing bays and they need solutions to help them increase their work production without sacrificing quality. Sonicfire Pro helps professional editors by fitting SmartSound's royalty-free music to any visual sequence, without sacrificing quality or cost. Sonicfire Pro lets editors work on more projects and finish them faster, while maintaining the high level of quality that they expect.
