1. WHAT IS THE WARRANTY FOR AJA PRODUCTS?
3 years on desktop products, 5 years on mini converters and converters.
2. HOW CAN I DETERMINE WHICH KONA CARD IS COMPATIBLE WITH MY MAC?
Here is a simple guide to determining the right AJA card for your Power Mac or Power Pro computer. Basically you can determine the type of AJA card that is compatible with your system fairly quickly with a quick look inside the machine. You do not even need to know what a PCIe or PCI-X slot looks like.
To determine whether your computer has PCI or PCI-X slots, read the ID label, which is located on the side of the computer at the bottom under the air deflector. Your computer's ID label tells you what hardware configuration you have. If your computer has PCI-X slots it will be listed here. If you don't see "PCI-X" your computer has PCI slots.
You can also identify your model by the number of DIMM slots. Computers with 4 DIMM slots have 33 MHz PCI slots; computers with 8 DIMM slots have 100 and 133 MHz PCI-X slots.
This will take care of the PCI vs. PCI-X for older G5's.
All of the PCIe Macs also had dual ethernet cards, so there will be Ethernet 1 and Ethernet 2 MAC addresses on the computer's ID label. These machines also have no mention of the bus type (PCI/PCI-X).
Summary:
- Determine the number of RAM slots in your computer.
- If there are four (4) RAM slots, your system is incompatible with AJA Kona cards. We recommend you upgrade to a MacPro system or consider one of the Io solutions from AJA.
- If there are eight (8) RAM slots, check the computer ID label.
- If ID Label contains PCI-X, select the Kona LH only. The Kona3 is not compatible.
- If ID label contains two Ethernet MAC addresses and no mention of PCI, the system is PCIe. Kona LHe and Kona3 are both compatible.
- All MacPro systems are PCIe. Both Kona LHe and Kona3 are compatible.
