Continuum Complete is a set of more than 150 fully native filters and transitions that are applied and animated in your application's interface. A large range of effects deliver everything from basic everyday utility and convenience to extraordinarily eye-catching special effects.

Boris Continuum Complete provides cutting-edge filter technology that delivers high-end effects. Working directly in your native application interface, you can access filters and features that let you create unforgettable effects at an affordable price. Version 4 offers major improvements to the award-winning BCC version 3 by building on core technologies such as Optical Flow, OpenGL and motion tracking.

True Layer Compositing and Time Effects
Compositing involves blending multiple video layers. BCC 3 provides effects that blend video layers in a number of desirable ways. Take advantage of advanced keying and matte control, blend layers by combining and animating Apply Modes or filter images selectively using the integrated PixelChooser masking.

  • Integrated PixelChooser: The PixelChooser is a convenient double mask integrated into most filters; it includes Region Controls for defining the area of the image to affect, as well as Matte controls for using channel information such as the chroma and luma to control the intensity of the effect within that region. Continuum 3 adds a new option which allows After Effects users to incorporate their custom masks into the PixelChooser.
  • Advanced High Quality Keying: Boris Continuum Complete's superior keying filters use various techniques to create and adjust mattes. Chroma Key, Matte Choking and Alpha Process filters provide precise, clean keys. Some of the Boris Keying filters create mattes using the image's luma or color channel information, while others clean existing mattes by subtracting, adding, or blending pixels in the matte.
  • Time Based Effects: BCC 3 allows you to create time-based effects such as realistic motion blur and animatable motion effects where velocity smoothly ramps up and down. The Time filters include Optical Flow which uses motion vectors to analyze the image and create new intermediate frames providing very smooth, keyframable, slow motion effects. Optical Flow analyzes motion vectors in the image to create new intermediate frames for super smooth keyframable slow motion effects. Click here for a 1.3MB Quicktime video showing the power of OpticalFlow.
  • New Suite of Film Tools: Continuum Complete includes a suite of new film tools that allow you to create a variety of effects. Film Damage emulates many different aged film and film projector effects while Dust and Scratches removes unwanted damage from an image. Film Process gives video the appearance of having been shot on film. This filter allows you to integrate different types of media in your project. For example, match computer-generated animations with archival film stock, make video appear like color-pushed film, infrared film or make images appear warmer or cooler. You can combine this filter with the BCC DeInterlace, BCC Film Grain, BCC Film Damage and BCC Match Grain filters for the truly realistic results. In the following examples, the original image appears in the top left corner. The other images illustrate some of the different looks that can be achieved with the Film Process filter.
  • Built In Motion Tracking: Built-in Motion Tracking allows Position parameters to follow the movement of something in the video image.
  • Filters for Sophisticated Blending of Layers: Composite, RGB Blend and Boost Blend provide image blending effects based on Apply Modes. You can easily combine Apply Modes, animate between them and mix back to the original image to create a wide variety of looks. In addition, you can use the PixelChooser to create a matte between filtered and unfiltered pixels, either by specifying a geometric region or by using the image's luma or color information. For even more precision, use a region-based matte as a garbage matte, then combine it with a channel-based matte.

Powerful Filtering, Distorting, and Generating Capabilities
Compositing involves blending multiple video layers. BCC 3 provides effects that blend video layers in a number of desirable ways. Take advantage of advanced keying and matte control, blend layers by combining and animating Apply Modes or filter images selectively using the integrated PixelChooser masking.

  • Color Effects: Correct Selected Color - Allows you to adjust a specified range of colors in the source image, leaving colors outside the range unaffected. This filter goes beyond simply distinguishing shadows, mid-tones, and highlights by luma levels. This powerful and convenient tool adjusts specific colors within a shot, rather than color matching between shots.
  • Blurs: Continuum includes several high quality Blurs. With integrated Apply Modes and PixelChooser masking, these filters can be used as a basis for a variety of useful effects.
  • Distortion and Perspective: 2D Particles and 3D Image Shatter use auto-animation, so you can easily create effects where a video image or title dissolves into bits or explodes into pieces without having to keyframe. Controls for gravity, velocity, and particle wipes let you further refine the effects.

High quality distortion effects like Ripple, Wave, Twirl, Bulge, or Displacement Map - Ripple and Wave use auto-animation by default so they ripple and wave as soon as you apply them . These filters offer controls for speed, wave height, and light. Displacement Map allows you to displace the pixels of an image based on another image. Once again, these effects can also be used to great effect with titles or imported graphics.

3D Shapes like Cylinder, Sphere, Cube, and Page Turn - Map video, logos, or titles to 3D shapes with full 3D rotation control, and realistic lighting.

  • Film Effects: Deinterlace, Film Process, Film Grain, Film Damage, Match Grain - Film effects let you give video the appearance of having been shot on film. Emulate popular film stocks or integrate different types of media in a single project. For example, match computer-generated animations with archival film stock. Deinterlace converts to frame-based footage while maintaining the highest image quality and resolution. This filter also includes options for simulating telecine 24 fps material with pulldown. Film Process offers precise controls to simulate the tinting and gamma of film stocks. Film Grain and Film Damage can add grain, flicker, hair, and scratches. Match Grain samples the grain from one source and applies a similar grain to the filter clip.
  • Glows: Colorize Glow, Glow, and Glow Alpha Edges - Colorize Glow creates a glow color that can be precisely defined by a gradient of up to six color values. Glow can create a glow based on the chroma, luma, or alpha channels of the image. Glow Alpha Edges quickly and easily adds a glow that extends beyond the alpha edges of a clip - great for use with a title, logo, or other keyed foreground element.
  • Generators: Particle Based Generators including Comet, Rain, Snow, Sparks, and Particle System - Comet is an easy to use auto-animating particle emitting projectile that flies through 3D space. Rain and Snow offer a quick way to simulate earthly precipitation with controls to precisely composite with footage, and an interaction layer to make rain or snow bounce or accumulate. Particle System offers a full 3D particle generating environment with advanced features like particle attractors, the ability to use an alternate layer’s alpha or luma as a production boundary or interaction layer.

Procedural Texture Generators like Rock, Wood Grain, Steel, Brick, Granite, and Cloth - Each offers precise control to make the effects capable of a wide variety of looks. Most offer a Bump Map feature for a realistic 3D look and lighting, and integrated Apply Modes for compositing with video.

  • Light Rays: New Light Rays filters - Continuum 3 adds several new effects for simulating volumetric light rays. While these effects have many controls in common, each effect is geared toward a particular way of filtering or masking the light source. For example, mask the light source based on the luma edges (Rays Radiant Edges) or an outline around the edges (Rays Cartoon), or mask the light source based on an animatable ring or wedge shape (Rays Ring and Rays Wedge). You can also create dramatic effects where the light rays have an auto-animating shimmering texture that can be generated based on a ripple or noise map.
  • Lens Flare: Lens Flare and Other OpenGL-based Light Effects - Continuum now offers high quality, realistic Lens Flare effects that accurately simulate light bouncing or refracting inside the camera lens. Glint and Glare simulate reflective light in the image that is based on the highlights of the video. Built in motion tracking lets you easily track a light source. Glitter generates moving and twinkling patterns of color or monochromatic stars.
  • Wipe Transitions: New Auto-Animating Wipe Transitions - Continuum 3 offers a suite of wipes which provide a variety of unique transitions. You can apply and customize the wipes in no more than a few clicks (no keyframing required). Advanced features include animating patterns and noise that modify the shape of the wipe edge as well as multiple borders with options for softness and bias control. A unique Influence feature uses the luma or chroma values of a shot to influence the shape of the wipe edge, resulting in unique looks with a natural feel.

New In Version 4
Motion Key

The Motion Key filter is based on proprietary optical flow technology first introduced in BCC's Optical Flow and Motion Blur filters. The Motion Key isolates and removes moving foreground objects from a clip without the need for complex masking or cloning.

Corner Pin
The Corner Pin Tracker lets you map media to a moving object using
perspective distortion to a clip. A four point motion tracker automatically pins a clip onto a specific region of another clip.

3D Extruded Image Shatter
The OpenGL-based 3D Extruded Image Shatter filter shatters a clip
into three-dimensional particles with adjustable extrusions. The filter provides a variety of explosion, velocity and gravity and auto-animates by default, although you manually animate it for precise control.

Halftone
The Halftone filter simulates the look of traditional offset printed material by converting the image to simulated halftone dots.

Median
The Median filter creates painterly brush style effect by making each pixel look like the majority of its neighboring pixels.

Optical Stabilizer
The Optical Stabilizer uses optical flow technology to analyze a shaky clip then adjusts the track's position to compensate. Unlike many stabilizing tools, the BCC Optical Stabilizer does not require you to set user-defined tracking points. This allows you to stabilize images where tracking data is unreliable. You can also stabilize just a portion of a track to correct isolated camera bumps.

Unlike many stabilize effects which only take horizontal and vertical movement into consideration, the BCC Optical Stabilizer takes motion, rotation and scaling into account when stabilizing.

Color Match
The Color Match filter quickly matches the color and luma values from the highlight, midtone and shadow areas of two separate clips.

Final Effects Complete 5 AE

Final Effects Complete 5 AE is a ground-up re-write of the legendary Final Effects Complete filters by the Boris FX development team. With a modernized user interface, multi-processor acceleration, and 16-bit color processing, the famous Final Effects Complete filters are ready for the creative minds of the 21st century.

Well known for the unique particle treatments of Mr. Mercury and Bubbles, the creative distortions of  Griddler and Flo Motion, the eye catching, stylized effects of Mr. Smoothie and Glue Gun, and the excellent edge treatments of Sparkle Edges and Wiggle Edges, Final Effects Complete remains the hidden secret behind many award-winning projects. While borrowing many new technologies from Boris Continuum Complete, FEC 5 AE remains compatible with all previous FEC versions released by Cycore, MetaCreations, and ICE.

Significant new features in version 5

  • FEC 5 takes full advantage of many technologies found in Boris Continuum Complete. Features such as PixelChooser, Motion Tracker, Preset Loader and Online Documentation hallmarks of BCC filters are now included with FEC, too.
  • New UI: The new modernized native parameter UI sports new control groups, contextual controls, on-screen widgets, custom controls and many other improvements. All parameter options are now readily available as native parameters without a need to open modal dialog windows.

  • 16 Bit Rendering : FEC 5 includes both 8 and 16 bit filters for highest quality image processing.
  • MP Acceleration : All filters have been optimized from the original version to take full advantage of multi core and multi processor computing platforms. The overall speedup varies from filter to filter.
  • PixelChooser Technology : Most FEC 5 filters feature the award-winning Boris PixelChooser where appropriate. PixelChooser is an internal method of selectively applying the image processing to the image based on criteria defined by the user. The criteria may vary from color channel information to simple geometric shapes to spline-based masks available in After Effects. This method is superior to layer duplication and masking because it is more flexible and efficient. The mask can be applied to various stages of pre and post processing. The parts of the image not chosen by the mask remain untouched by the filter.
  • Multitude Of Standard Presets : As any Boris product FEC 5 ships with over 800 pre-saved presets for quick new looks. Custom presets can be saved and shared between multiple workstations and even emailed to other users.
  • Extensive Filter Enhancements:  FEC 5 AE adds new features and improvements to every one of the 108 filters in the set. Highlights include:
    • Auto-animation in many of the transitions
    • Extensive new controls in FEC Hair such as the ability to generate curly hair instead of just straight hair as well as the ability to modulate the gravity direction across the image based on a gradient map
    • New FEC Bubbles controls for drift direction, particle randomness, and source texture mapping pinning. In addition, FEC Bubbles now includes a Deflector point to create regions with no bubbles.
    • Much better lighting controls in Mr Mercury, Blobblylize, Glue Gun, Glass, and Ball Action
    • Two new particle types in Particle Systems II Advanced Sphere and Advanced Lens. These new particle types allow you to generate different looking spheres with more extensive lighting control.
