DESCRIPTION
SMART I/O for Adobe CS6 Production Premium Matrox products have been the I/O hardware of choice for Adobe editors since 1995, offering many workflow advancements over the years. From the first real-time playback, real-time effects, and real-time export engines, to support for Mac and PC laptops and desktops with a single device, Matrox worked hand-in-hand with Adobe over many generations of the Adobe applications to make sure video professionals always had the tools they needed to do their jobs with the utmost creativity and productivity.
Now, the Matrox MXO2 devices are still the only solutions that connect anywhere, Mac and PC, via Thunderbolt, PCIe, or ExpressCard/34 – with the same versatile unit.
Along with the new Matrox Mojito MAX card, they are also the only I/O solutions on the market that let you deliver H.264 files up to five times faster than software alone without sacrificing quality!
Capture, scale, monitor, and output in any format you need – from analog and HDMI to HD-SDI. Monitor your 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound mixes using professional connections. Turn your HDMI screen into a professional grade video monitor with the unique Matrox HDMI Calibration Utility. Enjoy special benefits with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Media Encoder, Prelude, and Encore.
Adobe Premiere Pro Adobe Premiere Pro editors can take advantage of the full range of Matrox MXO2 and Mojito MAX features plus other important benefits such as the high-quality Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame codec, rock-solid deck control, support for leading file-based workflows such as RED, XDCAM, and P2, as well as unique closed captioning support.
On the PC, the Matrox I/O platforms offer a variety of advanced, easy-to-use Matrox Flex CPU effects such as primary and secondary color correction, proc amp controls, color match, color balance, input/output level control, RGB curves control, chroma and luma keying, smooth speed changes, transitions, wipes, and timecode overlay.
Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame intermediate codec The Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame intermediate codec is a high-quality, highly-efficient 8-bit 4:2:2 video codec used mainly as a less processor-intensive way of working with long-GOP footage such as HDV, AVCHD, and XDCAM HD. The bit rate of the codec can be set between 50 and 300 Mbps, giving you the flexibility on each clip to make your own tradeoffs between video quality and storage considerations.
It can be used with Adobe Premiere Pro in four ways:
as a full-raster capture codec when capturing from SDI or analog;
as an intermediate editing format when working with CPU-taxing formats such as AVCHD to maximize quality as well as editability;
as a rendering codec to ensure that "flattened" files maintain high quality when exporting or printing to tape; and
as an effective archiving codec for material that may be used in future projects.
Deck control In conjunction with the RS-422 hardware port on Matrox SDI I/O products, the Matrox device control feature enables traditional tape-based workflows for frame-accurate batch capture and print-to-tape with perfect A/V sync. On the Mac, this provides an easy way to capture to the Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame codec or to any 8- or 10-bit QuickTime-based codec. On the PC, this provides an easy way to capture to the Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame codec or to the Matrox 10-bit uncompressed codec to enable a full end-to-end 10-bit workflow in Premiere Pro.
Smooth file-based workflows Matrox I/O devices tap into the Adobe Mercury Transmit engine to let you monitor and output your RED, XDCAM, and P2 timelines. While you edit, you see your project on your broadcast monitor or an inexpensive HDMI display. You just put your footage on the timeline and press play. Once you've finished your edit, the Matrox I/O device lets you play out your timeline directly to SDI and analog formats.
Closed captioning support on the Mac Matrox SDI I/O devices provide HD-SDI closed captioning support using the patent-pending Matrox 4VANC tool. You will no longer need to spend time and money recreating HD captioning data that is typically lost when editing projects. The unique Matrox workflow lets you capture, playback, and preserve closed captioning data while editing. Nothing is destroyed even when trimming or color correcting video clips.
In addition, Matrox has worked with CPC, the closed captioning software leader, to develop an innovative solution that allows the MacCaption software to encode, decode, edit, and create HD and SD closed captioning for use with Matrox SDI I/O devices. They also provide a cost effective way to monitor HD timelines containing closed captioning data on SDI and component SD monitors, while also inserting closed captioning information into line 21 of active video for SD deliverables. You can deliver HD and SD masters containing closed captions simultaneously.
Closed captioning support on the PC Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 lets you attach a closed caption data file to a sequence and display the closed captions in the Program Monitor and through Firewire DV output. Compatible file types are described as .mcc and .scc files for use in DTV (CEA-708) and SD (CEA-608) transmissions respectively.
Matrox SDI I/O devices can add appropriately formatted closed captioning data to line 21 of analog SD outputs for monitoring and print-to-tape. They can also let you use standard (nonclosed captioning enabled) monitors to preview HD timelines with closed captioning data by overlaying decoded closed captioning text over the previewed video. This is the ideal costeffective way to see your closed captions, even when you're using an inexpensive HDMI display as your program monitor.
Matrox SDI I/O devices can also embed closed captioning data in SDI streams in accordance with the above specifications and let you simultaneously deliver HD-SDI and analog SD masters containing closed captions. Matrox products equipped with Matrox MAX technology can also deliver H.264 files with embedded closed captioning information for the web, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV directly from Adobe Premiere Pro timelines.
Adobe After Effects Matrox I/O products let you experience your 2D and 3D motion graphics as you create them in After Effects, at full quality, full frame size, and full frame rate, with real-time RAM preview, on a wide range of monitors. You see your work as your client will, with accurate color representation and 1:1 pixel mapping. You can judge your work in a brand new way.
On the PC, Matrox also provides a variety of effects for use with After Effects – chroma clamper, chroma key, chroma key shadow, and luma ley, as well as primary and secondary color correctors. These effects are a perfect complement for users of Adobe Dynamic Link when working with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Adobe Photoshop When working on those special graphics for your video productions, you can use the WYSIWYG feature of Matrox I/O products to preview your images on an external monitor. You can see how your graphics will be seen by your client.
Adobe Media Encoder Matrox MAX-enabled MXO2 devices and the Mojito MAX card provide lightning fast H.264 encoding on the PC by directly integrating with Adobe Media Encoder. On the Mac, Adobe Media Encoder is accelerated through the Apple QuickTime codec component.
Adobe Prelude Adobe Prelude lets you add searchable markers and other temporal metadata while you are ingesting and logging footage. Matrox I/O products provide full quality monitoring on HDMI, SDI, or analog video displays while you do this allowing you to judge your footage more accurately than if you were using just a small preview window.
Adobe Encore Matrox I/O products let you see your Blu-ray or DVD content, menus, chapters, and other authoring features on an external monitor, just as your customers will see them.
On the PC, you can use H.264 files created with Adobe Media Encoder and Matrox MAX in Adobe Encore or encode for Blu-ray directly within Encore, eliminating the need for timeconsuming re-encoding.

SMART I/O for Apple Final Cut Studio In 2006 Matrox changed the game for Final Cut Pro editors by making HD-SDI monitoring and output from a MacBook Pro a reality and facilitating the trend toward mobile editing. Other innovations quickly followed including units that could run off camera batteries, making them the ideal choice for use by journalists in the field and in OB vans.
Now, the Matrox MXO2 devices are still the only solutions that connect anywhere, to laptop and desktop systems, including all the new Macs – 13", 15", and 17" MacBook Pros, Mac Minis, iMacs, and MacBook Airs – with the same versatile unit. Connectivity is provided by via Thunderbolt, PCIe, or ExpressCard/34. Even customers who purchased MXO2 devices years ago can simply purchase a Matrox Thunderbolt adapter to future-proof their editing systems.
Along with the new Matrox Mojito MAX card, MXO2 devices are also the only I/O solutions on the market that integrate directly with Compressor to let you deliver H.264 files up to five times faster than software alone without sacrificing quality!

Get the most from Final Cut Studio!
Apple Final Cut Pro Final Cut Pro editors can take advantage of the full range of Matrox MXO2 and Mojito MAX features plus other important benefits such as support for ProRes and other leading codecs, RED workflows, XDCAM and P2 workflows, closed captioning, AFD, and hardware acceleration of Final Cut Pro Dynamic RT segments.
RED workflow support RED users can benefit from Matrox I/O products on set and in the post suite. On set, connected to a MacBook Pro (or Mac Pro), a Matrox I/O device gives you live ingest on site. You can connect the SDI output from your RED camera and ingest at 720p through your MacBook Pro and FW800 storage while storing the original R3D and proxy files directly to your RED storage. Back in the post suite, you can use a Matrox I/O device to work with 1K and 2K RED timelines and output to SD, 720, or 1080 using the real-time 10-bit hardware scaling feature.
Smooth file-based workflows for XDCAM HD and P2 HD Matrox I/O devices let you monitor and output your XDCAM HD and P2 HD timelines at full frame rate and full frame size from Final Cut Pro without first transcoding to an intermediate format such as ProRes or DVCPRO. You save time on every project and enjoy a more fluid workflow.
While you edit, the Matrox I/O devices let you see your XDCAM HD or P2 HD project on your broadcast monitor or an inexpensive HDMI display at the correct frame rate and size with no dropped frames. You just put your footage on the timeline and press play. Once you've finished your edit, the Matrox I/O device lets you play out your XDCAM HD or P2 HD timeline directly from Final Cut Pro to SDI and analog formats. The same workflow also applies to XDCAM, XDCAM HD, XDCAM HD422 and P2. Simply shoot, log/transfer, edit, then output.
Closed Captioning All Matrox MXO2 products and Mojito MAX support NTSC closed captioning with Final Cut Pro.
Matrox SDI I/O devices also provide HD-SDI closed captioning support using the patent-pending Matrox 4VANC tool. You will no longer need to spend time and money recreating HD captioning data that is typically lost when editing projects in Final Cut Pro. The unique Matrox workflow lets you capture, playback, and preserve closed captioning data while editing. Nothing is destroyed even when trimming or color correcting video clips.
In addition, Matrox has worked with CPC, the closed captioning software leader, to develop an innovative solution that allows the MacCaption software to encode, decode, edit, and create HD and SD closed captioning for use with the Matrox SDI I/O devices. They also provide a cost effective way to monitor HD timelines containing closed captioning data on SDI and component SD monitors, while also inserting closed captioning information into line 21 of active video for SD deliverables. You can deliver HD and SD masters containing closed captions simultaneously.
Active Format Description (AFD) support AFD is a standard set of codes in the SDI signal that broadcasters use to enable both 4:3 and 16:9 television sets to optimally present pictures transmitted in either format. Matrox I/O products support AFD in the SDI video signal using the patent-pending Matrox 4VANC tool. Matrox 4VANC will capture, maintain, and restore your AFD information while capturing, editing and outputting an SDI signal through your Matrox SDI I/O device.
Hardware acceleration of Final Cut Pro Dynamic RT segments, HDV, and DVCPRO HD When you are working with Final Cut Pro Dynamic RT segments or the HDV and DVCPRO HD formats, the 10-bit hardware scaler in your Matrox I/O device takes some of the burden off your CPU, saving processing power for other Final Cut Pro operations, so you get better real-time performance.
In Dynamic RT editing mode, Final Cut Pro automatically reduces frame size to let you preview non-real-time segments of your project at a better frame rate. With the Matrox hardware scaler, these segments are accelerated to their original frame size.
The Matrox hardware scaler accelerates HDV and DVCPRO HD to full resolution during playback.
Apple Compressor Matrox MAX-enabled MXO2 devices and the Mojito MAX card let you deliver H.264 files up to 5 times faster than software alone without sacrificing quality by directly integrating with Compressor.
Apple Color Matrox I/O products give Color users maximum flexibility. You can view your work simultaneously in both HD and SD from a single timeline on broadcast monitors or take advantage of the unique Matrox HDMI Calibration Utility that turns an inexpensive HDMI display into a monitor you can trust while color grading.
SoundTrack Pro Every project requires some sort of audio sweetening to enhance the final production. With Matrox I/O devices and SoundTrack Pro, workflows from simple voice-overs to full surround sound mixes can be monitored directly. You can not only hear your audio mix as you work, but also use video output capabilities of you Matrox product to view your video at the same time.
Motion While you are creating eye-catching 2D or 3D graphics or special effects sequences in Motion, you can rely on your Matrox I/O device to view your work in all its glory, exactly as it will look to your audience, in HD or SD.
