Information about the academic license- There is no technical difference between the educational license and a standard license.
- It is valid for 2 CPUs.
- The license is not time limited, although it does not grant you a free upgrade to newer versions. When a new major version of RealFlow is released you will need to buy again.
- RealFlow software is download only. The manual is also available for download.
- Educational licenses are strictly for educational purposes only, and must not be used commercially.

The technology developed by Next Limit for the simulation of fluids, water surfaces, rigid bodies, soft bodies, fibers, and meshes is groundbreaking in that it is particle based. The elements of the simulation use physical properties to control their behavior and can interact with each other and recat according to impulses, forces and accelerations. Working in conjunction with the most popular 3D platforms, its core consists of an extremely realistic, physically based continuous-particle system and a new stacking rigid body solver. A team of physicists and dynamics engineers have been working on RealFlow for 8 years to bring this groundbreaking technology to the world of CG. RealFlow has been used for the production of spectacular effects in numerous major movies. These include Poseidon, X-Men 3 (The Last Stand), Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and Ice Age 2 (The Meltdown) to name but a few. It has also been used to produce effects for countless commercials and television products worldwide. Check out the demo reel here: http://www.nextlimit.com/realflow/img/videos/demoreel06.html . RealFlow is a stand-alone application, fully working in 32 and 64 bits, it work is on various OS, it is OpenGL compliant that works with 3DStudio MAX, Maya, LightWave, XSI, Cinema 4D and Houdini. Due to RealFlow's Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) engine and its propagation rigid body solver, any kind of effect is possible, from a tornado that breaks a roof apart, to a flood, to a river with flowers floating on it, to a rainstorm; anything you can imagine! Special features include a wet map generator to create surface wetting effects and the inclusion of a camera into the simulation. Features - Export Simulation: Apart from the usual scene exchange workflow through the plugins and SD format, RF4 provides an advanced feature aimed at optimizing resources and saving memory; bin and new .md and .pd file formats. An SDK is available for these two formats, so anybody can create their own translator.
- Cameras: Creating and including cameras in the simulation makes RF4 an innovative tool for new possibilities in effects visualization.
- Fluids
- GUI: The RF4 tool set has been reorganized, based on the logical use of the program, in order to have a clear workspace with nothing to disturb you. Layout customizing is very fast and dynamic. You will have all the tools that you need, when you need them.
- Mesh: You have now the possibility of stopping the mesh during the calculation process, adjusting the parameters, and then continuing with the process.
- RealWave: RealWave includes some new features to broaden the possibilities of your simulations, such as currents, or defining the depth of the sea bottom to control the wave’s shape.
- RFNative Objects: RF4 includes some basic primitives that can save users a lot of time on some scenes, and they will help you in your simulations.
- Scripts: You can now apply Python language scripts to five areas of RF: batch runs, events, daemons, waves and fluids. Next Limit has designed a full palette of functions that gives users almost total control of simulations, opening up endless possibilities.
- Workflow: The new workflow's efficiency is a result of Next Limit’s listening to users. From scene creation where everything is automated, to the possibility of choosing a custom output that fits your pipeline. We have made the workflow faster and easier for you, and have included more preferences.
