Quick Overview

Twixtor intelligently slows down, speeds up or changes the frame rate of your image sequences.

Description

Details

Now available with GPU support for Avid Media Composer, Symphony, Newscutter, Sony Vegas, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and After Effects, Hitfilm, Natron and Nucoda! We've clocked speedups at up to 5x over the CPU version!

RE:Vision Effects, acclaimed effects plug-in industry leader and makers of Academy Award winning software, announces the release of Twixtor v6 for FXHOME HitFilm, Digital Vision Nucoda, and Natron. Both products continue to be available for Adobe After Effects; Apple; Final Cut Pro; Avid Media Composer, Symphony and Newscutter, The Foundry Nuke, Adobe Premiere Pro, Assimilate Scratch, Blackmagic Fusion Studio, Autodesk Systems, and Sony Vegas Pro.

Twixtor creates highly engaging slow motion shots without the cost of renting a high speed camera. In order to achieve its unparalleled image quality, Twixtor synthesizes unique new frames by warping and interpolating frames of the original sequence by employing RE:Vision's proprietary tracking technology that calculates motion for each individual pixel.

Twixtor can see substantial acceleration using GPUs. Note that most currently-sold GPUs will provide customers with much needed acceleration, including even many mobile GPUs for laptops. The total speedup end-users will see will vary once application overhead is taken into account, including disk I/O, internal host buffering schemes, bandwidth of PCIe bus, codec used for footage, as well as features used in the plug-ins.

Twixtor raises the bar in motion estimation. Twixtor is much more accurate, tracks objects farther, and exhibits fewer artifacts when there are objects crossing in the scene. This means less tearing and stretching of objects as they cross or go out of the frame.

Twixtor enables you to speed up, slow down or frame rate convert1 your image sequences with visually stunning results. In order to achieve its unparalleled image quality, Twixtor synthesizes unique new frames by warping and interpolating frames of the original sequence... employing RE:Vision's proprietary tracking technology that calculates motion for each individual pixel.

Nick Brooks, Academy Award and Emmy Award winner for visual effects says, 'Twixtor represents a new touchstone in retiming. The difference in accuracy means that retiming artifacts are either drastically reduced or disappear on the hardest to retime footage. '

DV Magazine calls Twixtor 'amazing' and 'a must-have for any toolkit.'

Chris Meyer, co-founder of CyberMotion, teacher of regular seminars on After Effects, columnist for DV Magazine and co-author of Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects and other books, says 'I've tried other solutions - including Pixel Motion and Timewarp in After Effects 7 - and I have to say that Twixtor still consistently gives me the smoothest speed-shifted footage with the least amount of sweat, hands-down.'

Creative Cow review by Marco Solorio: 'I highly recommend this plugin to those seeking absolute superiority in time frame manipulation.' read the review

Video Systems Magazine says 'it's the best plug-in method for creating speed changes, slow-motion effects, and frame-rate conversions.' read the review

DIGIT magazine says 'If you regularly find yourself stretching or shrinking footage to fit a target duration, or creating extreme speed control special effects, this is a plugin that you'll find invaluable.'

1 - Frame rate conversion fully supported with After Effects and combustion only. Frame rate conversions can often be accomplished in other applications by writing out image sequences and reading them back in with a different frame rate setting.

FEATURES and COMPATIBILITY

After Effects and Premiere Pro

TWIXTOR

  • Warping and interpolation of frames to 'time warp' input footage.
  • Smart processing of interlaced material
  • Stretching of a sequence using a single scaling parameter.
  • Keyframable retiming for complete control on a frame by frame basis.
  • Frame rate conversions made easy (Important Note: frame rate conversions are supported only from within After Effects and Combustion ).
  • 8 and 16 bits per channel processing. Unclamped floating point image support in After Effects 7.0 or later
  • Option to automatically enhance dark imagery or imagery with poorly defined edges. In many cases, footage that was difficult to track becomes much more well-behaved upon retiming.
  • Contains an option to add or remove motion motion blur, as appropriate.
  • Support for marking material so that Twixtor does not motion-interpolate across a cut.
  • After Effects only: ability to remap audio and video using AE's time remapping tools but using Twixtor 'under the hood'

TWIXTOR PRO

  • Object separation. Support for foreground and background separation using a specified matte. Twixtor then tracks each layer separately for improved results. This feature uses proprietary filling and tracking techniques when working on the background layer even when it is obscured by the foreground! Support for up to 3 foreground layers.
  • Track Point Guidance. Up to 12 user-defined points can be specified to help guide Twixtor's motion estimation. By using the tracking points you can explicitly tell Twixtor where a pixel moves from one frame to the next in order to guide Twixtor's calculation of motion vectors. You can set the position of each point at each frame by hand, but more importantly, In After Effects and combustion these points can be positioned from frame-to-frame using the host application's point-tracking features.
  • Spline Guidance. When Twixtor exhibits tracking problems, you can guide Twixtor by simply creating and animating shapes to show Twixtor where objects are actually moving. Interactive feature registration is directed through the host program's drawing and roto tools (splines and polylines), not through a grid of mesh points! As such, there is no new interface to learn! This feature only available within After Effects 5.0 (and later) and combustion 3.0 (and later).
  • Motion Vector Import. Give Twixtor motion vectors generated elsewhere (like from a 3D system) to time remap footage, including adding motion-interpolated fields to otherwise progressive material. Only supported in apps that work in 16bpc or higher.
  • Motion Vectors Export. You can now output the motion vectors that Twixtor generates internally. This powerful feature comes with visual debugging modes to more intuitively assess and tune the quality of the motion estimation. The motion vectors can then be used elsewhere in the pipeline (including the Twixtor plugin that imports motion vectors). Only supported in apps that work in 16bpc or higher.

  • Media Composer v6 and up, Symphony v6 and up or NewsCutter v10 and up. 64-bit version required.
  • GPU with 1G memory officially supported. GPUs with 500m can work for Twixtor, but are not officially supported.
  • Driver for GPU must support OpenCL 1.1 (even if Premiere Pro is using CUDA for your GPU). Note that Mac OS 10.7 and up automatically provides this compatibility. On Windows, check with your manufacturer for updated drivers for your GPU, and make sure that you have one that supports OpenCL 1.1. We recommend the latest drivers available.
  • Windows 7 or 8, 64-bit for GPU support. Vista is still supported for CPU mode.
  • Mac OS 10.7 or 10.8. Mac OS 10.6 still supported for CPU mode. It is highly recommended that when on Macintosh to use Mac OS 10.8 for the GPU mode of Twixtor. OpenCL drivers within are more robust and run up to 30% faster than those of Mac OS 10.7.
  • Vegas Pro 10.0d and up. 64-bit only.
  • Movie Studio 11.0 and up. 64-bit only
  • HitFilm 3.0.0576 and up.
